Cheap Snapping - Please Help

Hey guys, Pass this around to all the message boards because I want a big response
I know people who can create scripts for me like ones that can snap domain names. Before I have them create a script, I want to find out exactly how it works, step by step. I need all the info on them, how some are better, how some are worse, whats the best one and why, whats the worst one and why, etc...

Also once completed, I would not charge per snap, I would charge a monthly membership fee of around $20 for unlimited amount of snapped domains. WHat do you guys think, is that a good price. Please let me know. If I see your feedback is really valuable, I will give you free snaps

I don't need any secrets. I have programmers who can make it for me, relatively cheap. I just need to know if people are going to spend $20 a month for it. I can get the software developed for $1,000 (which I think is pretty good)

Although the price is too checp for an effective service like the one you are talking about, there is no-one here that would hesitate to use it if it were available.

unlimited is a bad business plan for this game!!

1. you'll end up running the script the whole day if you have a pool of 3 million names

2. if each customer submitted 1,000 names, you regged it and he couldn't pay. you will end up in debt. Or else you have to reserve the credit card fund before let them submit the names. (troublesome)

3. most customers will not be satisfied with the service because you won't get any good name for them due to the big pool of domains. you'll only get name that they can just manually reg it.

4. you are unlikely to win the big players out there

Thank you for that dkny. Along with the registration fee, I will build a pricing plan so users will get charged a $15 fee for domain registration. That way I am not in debt and even make about $6 on each domain registration. EIther that or I can let each user snap a maximum of 5 domain names

WHat I am going to do is:
Once you register for the monthly membership, your credit card is on file. If you choose to have a domain name snapped, the charges will be on your credit card for a specific domain so you only get charged 8.95 by godaddy.com

It was never going to be just $20. I am going to have a membership section of my site for about $20-$25 a month with many tools including domain snapping and something like constantcontact.com. I am talking to programmers now about to make this kind of project

The snaps will be free but you are going to need to pay the domain registering fee

JH3, i have a question for you. How often does the program at snapnames.com check if the domain is available because I found this at their site:
SnapBack service requests for names you believe will release in the 11 a.m. Pacific time batch must be entered before 10 a.m. Pacific time the same day

Also my programmer told me this:
It depends on how fast DNS records will be updated.
You will not able to check 1000 domain per second. It will
generate a huge traffic and you risks to be banned.

This is why $20 won't cover your overhead.
You may have a ton of customers your first month however those able to back order names first will be the only ones benefiting from the service creating some serious attrition.

I hope you get it done. Charge much more to a few people (ME)! And win a lot of names!

Your idea wont work unless you have MANY multiple DEDICATED
servers constantly monitoring thousands of domain names every
second.

For $20/unlimited domain, you're probably gonna average
about 200 domains/client/month, if not double that. Then
you'll have those clients sending queries to monitor several
thousand domain names.
Considering bandwidth costs, server rental costs and several
other factors, the $20/month won't work.

I doubt that a $1k script made by some average programmer
will do the job. The people that write the powerful scripts that
actually grab names are **** who eat, drink and dream
domains. They also have access to resources which cost
thousands of dollars.

Like Jh3 said, you need to REALLY research this subject before
investing any money.
