If from the chat logs, from what I can gather, you bought it for $500, then that would raise some red flags.

No, the 1/3 of the Three Amigos is banned on DNF.

This comment is completely untrue and I'm sure motivated by a continuing agenda that Theo-Acroplex has with us,

Why is it a big deal to hound Snoopy?

Anyways, if the old owner of this name bought it for $500, that to should be rasing some red flags also. Maybe you didn't buy the name of the person who stole the name in the first place. You could have bought it off the person who bought it off the theaf. Say that 3 times fast . :)

Shaggy, in your two paragraphs of text "you" refers to two different persons. Please quote appropriately to avoid misunderstandings.

I would contact [email protected] if I were you. The domain did not drop. Someone renewed it between 1/11/2007 and 1/15/2007, perhaps by gaining access to the NetSol account. Then they used WHOIS privacy and they reappear with the old info edited out on 2/2/2007 and the contact email [email protected]

In other words, there was no dropcatching transition; the fact that only the email and phone number (999 999 99999) are edited out from the WHOIS shows that they accessed the original NetSol account. I have caught NetSol domains with Snapnames and that's not what happens to the WHOIS info.

Does it really matter where it came from? If you're not the domain theif, I doubt you could lose it.

Well if someone got it stolen in January, then someone really screwed up. Because with transfer codes required, it can't be easy to steal a domain name any more.

Personally, I would like to see a system where we can designate our own domain names as "normal" or "high security". High Security meaning steps are in place that make a transfer much more difficult. I don't think all domains need the same level of security.

Social engineering is still thriving; you'd be surprised to know what excuses they use to gain access to a holding account. Also, I think EPP codes for .com domains were implemented later this year?

Nice domain, like others have said its not as good without the plural but i still think you could get between 20-40k to the right person. I used to listen to the band chore as well, have a couple cds. Didn't know they disbanded but hadn't heard from them in quite a while.

Looks like a great idea!

Email from previous domain owner : [email protected]

Hi Robert,

The original domain was for my friends band, I managed and created the site for him but the original registry was in his name. I was listed as the technical contact. The band disbanded, he no longer cared for the domain and we were gonna let it naturally die. I got an email from someone interested in the site so I said he could have it. We did all the switching perfectly fine but because I was only listed as the technical contact it was assumed it was stolen and it was frozen. I talked to Network solutions and it was all solved, they gave the domain back and I switched it over again. It was a real headache for a couple weeks. I'm not sure who it was that bought it, but all the conversations I had were through someone at central emails. Anyway, I can vouche that it's not stolen, just mass confusion because of the technical contact thing. Just let me know how else I can help.

Jay

This should be good enough to clear up the situation

but I will dig deeper JUST IN CASE.

until then, appraisals are more than welcome :)

Not true. The billing, admin and technical contact at the time was all the same email address: [email protected]. And besides, from the history, it seems to me this zeebarf is either the thief or the purchaser from the thief, no naturally he will have what seems to be a 'reasonable' explanation.

The thief is most likely hiding behind the private registration using [email protected] as the admin contact. [email protected]
is next admin, so is probably either the thief or purchased from the thief.

This looks to be the original owner:
