The way you're doing it might be OK, but tread carefully. :^)

thanks i will remove the amazon scrape until i have checked it out..

Get targeted traffic and the right mix and it will work for you.

I have one site that gets little traffic but it is targeted to golfers.
The golf merchants at Cj, GolfGods imparticular have great prices.
Overall my earnings are low but per click they are very good.

Made a whopping $10 today!

If you want programs without having to wait to join to get links there is darkblue.com There are very few programs but you can sign up and have the links in minutes.

I just got an email from CJ:
Commission Junction will begin assessing a monthly fee of USD $10 to publisher accounts that have not generated any commissions for six consecutive calendar months.

I guess they want to recover money from inactive accounts.

I think that is a wise decision on CJs part.
Why waste the time with people who sign up and don't do anything.

personally i think this is a dreadful decision- ive went through spells with cj where i havent used them for a few months and then came back to use them

if they charged me $10.00 for this id never come back

they are taking a huge gamble here - especially with low to medium sized websites - although they dont make the majority of the money for them they should still not be forgotten about

I think it is like hotmail closing your account if you don't send emails.

CJ says it will charge you for not making sales. They don't say they will charge you if you don't login for 6 months of if you have 0 impressions.

I ahve gone through spells where I didn't sell anything but 6 months is a long time to not have any sales.

One of the main reasons I like the new fee is that I am considering becoming a merchant myself. I am more confident that those who are offering my program will actually be promoting it and not just signing up (like I have done in the past).

With all of the programs at CJ there must be something you can refer people to in order to make $1.00 on a referral and therefore you will have 6 months to hang out and not promote any of the programs you are signed up for.

Sounds like bad PR.

CJ should threaten inactive accounts with de-activation, not bogus charges.

I guess that's another way to look at it. I think however they would rather keep the advertiser rather than delete them.
maybe their research shows that if a fee is imposed people would become more active??
Personally, if I were not making a penny with them and didn't forsee making anything for a few months I would close my account before the fee is due and re register when I was ready to advertise some programs.

I would imagine that they did some hardcore research on this topic before making it public and this was the best approach to take. Of course I could be wrong...

But then they wouldnt have the revenues.. !

I agree it is a raw deal ..I dont understand why they just dont delete dead accounts evry 6 months.. you want to join again fine..in the meantime your just taking up bandwidth..?

I dont know..I can see wher they need to do something.. but I tell you I just joined back up with them again 2 months ago after a 6 months or longer away from them because ...everyday my mail box was full of vendors that left the program, or they were making me change code, cookies all the time..

I still dont even trust them...this week I have 15 ,000 impressions off of one site ..40 click throughs ..no commissions.. yeah right.. I must have signed up for the 2 second cookie deal

I miss Art.com.. I had a sale ever 40 visitors !

They took off over to linkshare ..another pitiful program..

bidawinner,

Would there just happen to be an 800 number on that site with 15,000 impressions?

That is a sure way to lose a commission.

Cowboy have you tried darkblue? .. someone mentioned them yesterday..

I was going to try them about 6 months ago..but I think they had the X10 camera then also I at that time remember the X10 popups were every where !... I turned and ran from the web site..

Well I went back today..

signed up..

got all set up and have to say I am iimpressed with the layout , stats, admin area, ..everything is nicely laid out...

The true test of course is whether it makes you any money of course.. but I am seeing nice offers..

I am giving them a try...

I use to do nothing but go straight to Company/Manufactures and use the inhouse affiliate programs.. alwasy worked well..

But then you always have 50 different affiliate programs you have to keep track of..

I'll give Darkblue a try for couple months..

check it out..see what you think..

BTW.. you mentioned a site you were needing a saleperson for.. not jumping at you but you better get rid of allthat keyword stuffing at the bottom of the page before google bans you..

I know I know.. you've probably gotten by with it for awhile.. but once you've been had it's going to screw you up..

just some friendly advise

i think this is totally incorrect - CJ are one of the best affiliate networks on the web - it is very easy to make money with them if you choose the ads selectively

the days of throwing up any ad and getting a sale are long gone but you can still make good money:D

I've got to agree Fonz, I've made decent money with several programs at CJ and Linkshare. Other programs have made me nothing. It's usually the way I'm sending customers to them that determines the success or failure.

Thanks. It would be good to hear specifics.

Granted, alot depends on the nature of the traffic, but what specific affiliate programs in CJ are we talking about?

I am thinking of quiting cj.com. They don't have been too good for me.
In the past two months I have had 17000 impressions, 1715 clicks and 4 sales. What do you think?
I think their cookie lasts for about 3 seconds.
