closed compare base values of TLD's

Hello,

I am kindof new in the whole domain game and it would help me greatly if I knew the basic value of some of the top-level domains.
I know .com is the best, but how do the others rank?

For example:
There are 3 letter names (without digits) available as .cc or .us but obviously they are much less valued on todays market than their .com counterparts.

So here's my question:

Say that if for a good generic domain you'd pay $1000 for a .com domain, how much would you pay for the corresponding domain as

.org
.net
.us
.info
.biz
.cc
.ws
.com.cn
.cn
.tv

I am especially interested in the .com.cn and .cn (china domains) as generic words are still easy to find there.

Your help in assigning a number to each of these TLD's is greatly appreciated.

.org maybe 20%

.info and .biz maybe like 10% if they are very good

All others no

Basicly, it ALL depends on the name

There are some names that are better (according to me) in .org than .com

Even today, the relative value of identical names in various tlds depend to some extent on the nature of the name. For instance, like icehole noted, some names are much more suitable in .org than in .com. This differentiation is only likely to increase in future and therefore the relative values of identical names would depend, imo, more on how that name "fits in" with a particular tld. I'd argue that in a few short years it'd not surprise me at all if Diabetes.info commands more value than Diabetes.com, or Show.biz is considered more precious than Show.com. One other important distinction is that with the likely exception of .US, other cc tlds are probably not going to be in league with gTLDs as far as the valuation is concerned.

Take it or leave it, but my opinion for now is as folllow:

2- .info -- Seems coming strong, give it another year or two to see it reaching high--
3-.net -- Is strong put people dont see it yet. Its the closest sister of mister .com I like that sweet lady--
4- .biz -- Despite what other say, I think it will become very strong, wait two or three years to see --
5- .us -- Us maket is big but sleeping at this time --
6- .tv -- One of the easiest to remember for related domains. Few names will be high priced and the rest will drop incognito--
7- .org -- Valuable and usefull but not payfull --
8- .cc -- I am still having hard time to accept it--
9- .ws -- Did you say ws ? What the heck is that?
10- .com.cn / .cn-- You must be close to that market. The .cn market if huge but still far from being connected to the planet, wait another 5-10 years to see maybe a firecracker. Asians will jump on it like crazy believing they will be of high value, but in a year or two the balloon will deflate.
Personaly I do not like any .com.country. They are the worst.

When you give any other dot address, many people mistakenly go to the dot com and it is much worst when it comes with a .com.country.
I have seen it a lot on servers mostly on email servers.

You did not ask about new.net domains - Good, avoide those to

That is Very general, and a few .orgs and .nets are even more valuble that .Coms - it's not case by case - just can't generalize.

1) .net
2) .org

That is about it. I stay away from the new TLDs and ESPECIALLY the ccTLDs.

I have been eyeing .INFO, but never bought any.

Bob, I'm afraid you might've been "eyeing" too long...now I'd imagine by "buying" means aftermarket since it's been a long while since anyhing of value is left to reg!

.net - $375.00
.us - $150.00
.info - $25.00
.biz - $100.00
.cc - $0.00
.ws - $25.00
.com.cn - $0.00
.cn - $0.00
.tv - $0.00

They all really depend on the name, as others have said, as some names sound good in .net but are lousy as a .org, etc.

.tv Really dependent upon the name being valuable as something you'd see on TV.

So, using these numbers, a million dollar .com name is only worth $10,000 in .net. Using some other numbers above would make the .net like half a million or $75,000 or something crazy, which is totally unrealistically high unless the name works really well as a .net.

I agree with drop. It really depends on the name. Horoscope.info, for example, is a URL that really hits the nail on the sweet-spot. IMO, to accurately factor in value for an extension, you need to also consider the name and application that goes with it.

It's hard to put a value on each. In order of combination of current value combined with its future potential, and also weighted for both international and usa usage value, and also english speaking nations value, I rank them like this -

1 .com
2 .us
3 .org
4 .info
5 .net
6 .biz
7. co.uk
8. ca
9 .au

with all country codes not listed last, the strongest being .de

For the second time I wrote a comment, seemingly took too long, needed to log in again, got an ActiveX-warning (some ad on the website), declined it and was presented with a page that basically said "You did not specify a valid thread". Result, I just wasted 20 minutes because of a bug in the software. Wouldn't it be great if the world was perfect?

Ok, here goes comment number 3...

First of all thank you all for your comments. They really helped me a lot!

It seems that the folks here are divided into two groups:

the conservative ones:
who's value system runs much like this:
.com is gold
.net is brass
.org is wood
.info .us .cn .tv ... are all kinds of different-flavor manure

the daring and progressive ones:
who still stay with
.com is gold but then rate
.net as silver or if the name fits well as 14 carat gold
.org as copper though not for businesses
and then have different preferences according to their taste
.info seemingly agreed to come on strong soon
.us controversial, but with a consensus that it might do well

Both groups seem to agree that
.cn is shit and
.com.cn is shit squared

While I do see the reason behind rejecting .com.cn (too easy to forget the .cn), what the heck might be wrong with a .cn that does business with the whole world? Why would a well marketed business.cn (business with or in china) be any less valuable than business.com (business in general and nobody knows more about what it is)?

And last question:
Why is .info coming strong and some believe it will have a great future soon? It's 1 character longer than .com, even 2 longer than .us, it (in my humble newbie-opinion) looks clumsy and does not convey business in any way (in that it is much like the dreaded .org). So why would .info be the choice of the future?
Is there any reason behind the market preferences?

But as I said, thank you all for your great comments, you helped me a lot (and saved me a few bucks for not registering .cn's in March ).
