Happy2003 New Year!
Here's my question.... Once you pick a site to host your website and you tell them the domain name you intend to use, is it possible to change domain names? Please say is is!

the host is ownspot.com I really like them because I do not know html nor have the time...I have 3 young boys, just started college(at30!) and my husband is in law school fulltime.....so its crazy around here! I do have to say that ownspot.com has many AWESOME designs and options....and best of all they were generous enough to donate my 1st year of hosting rescued doggie site.

Hi April,

The first thing is that you should never register your domains through your hosting company. It locks you into them and whatever you think of them now, they may turn out to be rubbish in the future (company gets taken over et. etc...). Use a registration service so that you can change the DNS pointers whenever you want to.

The answer to you question is - if the registration for your domain has been purchased, then it's yours for a year. You can sell it, but only in a few cased can you delete the application. The easiest way to "change" your site is to purchase a second name and alias it to the first. You can then use these interchangeably. For an example you can look at my site

http://www.umpteenth.com (this was my original name)
and
http://www.anyurl.com (I got this off a drop and liked it better).

So, did you have any luck changing Domains?

DomainPairs gives good advice about registering the Domain Name yourself. I have read many horror stories about people loosing their Domains when they where registered by their Host.
