He was trying to register this name, every 2 seconds with a drop script at drop time today. Who picked up this name? Enom. Why? They have the new Drop Deals thing. They're taking advantage of the grace period by just registering EVERY DELETED name they can and trying to sell it for $10 + normal registration fee during the 5 day period. If it doesn't get sold, it gets deleted at no cost to the registrar.

http://www.enom.com/auctions/default.asp

Seems you can't grab even the worst names by yourself anymore. You have to backorder anything you want at additional expense, or try your luck waiting for them to delete it and pick it up before one of the other domain tasters grab it.

I noticed that there was not a single name that actually completed a "normal" drop cycle today. Something weird is going on.

Please see this thread where I detail my observations:

http://www.dnforum.com/f6/drt-domain-research-tool-users-please-help-thread-157448.html

And I don't think you will in the near future. Even the garbage like I tried to pick up today to test is getting scouped mainly by Enom registrars. They seem to traffic test them for 5 days. Then the ones that have no traffic they list in their drop deals section for $10 and try to sell them off before they delete them.

So if you want to get a name that is deleting (even one that is really not worth value to anyone) you have to either backorder, wait until ends up in the drop deals section (which means it doesn't have any traffic) or wait until the 6th day after the normal delete to pick it up.

Wow, enom should shut down. I noticed that too about not being able to register deleted names, they are a pollution to the business. I will embark on an anti-enom site. :P lol j/p But it is a bit like an internet monopoly.

Drop deals doesn't seem like a terrible thing. I'm trying to get a name that has been tasted and re-tasted about 6 times after dropping.

Is it just me or was there a sharp increase in tasting during last two weeks of May?

soon or later the caos will be the normality.

At that time, maybe ICANN will realize to start to work and think about changes to do.

Good news! Enom's tasting of this particular domain name is over and you can now register your domain.
No match for domain "TODOELSEXOGRATISYMASDUROQUEQUIERASFOTOSVIDEOSPORNO.COM".

If the name gets any measure of traffic ENOM will jkeep it for their own portfolio.

Don't waste your time with the drops anymore. There are still great names available but now, in order to get them you will need to call (not email) existing registrants on the phone.

In my experience its best not to phone around lunch or dinner times, 10am 2pm and 7:30-8:30pm in the time-zone of the registrant. Then be super polite, upbeat and fall on the sword trying to strike up some sort of conversation about the sale of the name. If you get lucky and manage to strike a deal with one registrant at 8pm don't call the next guy on your list at 9pm .. alot of folks wind down at that time.. i'd wait till the next day.

In the last 2 weeks I purchased 5 names $900 average price and those names are getting 35 unique a day on average, all type-in saleable item names. I would have to go through 3 months of drops to ever see names like these.

Alot of registrants have become so numb to emails offering to buy names, I have found there is no substitute for a phone call.

It may add up in long distance charges, but I am sure you will find its more rewarding than trolling through lists that have already been gone through (twice) by upstream registrars.

Snapnames excluded.. still good names there but big bidders making things prohibitove.

Sorry but I can't agree with this. There are still good names to be snapped up with enom's clubdrop. If you understand a certain market better then enom, you have that advantage, and can better monetize the traffic. It just sucks the minimum bid is now $30.
