Oh well, I got it wrong!
It was a hyphenated domain that had a $40 bid on Namewinner - I gambled that my $70 bid was the only bid ... and lost!

I hate Pool and its blind bidding and they probably lost money from higher bids from me because it wasn't transparent, that said I lost the name Grrr.

Pools new auction system sucks. Then, to top if off they give you your name at some registrar in some small, 3rd world country where you can't manage or transfer your domain.

I just gave up on dropped names for a few months, but I am using eNoms Club Drop now and have gotten 6 out 10 names I have tried for for REG FEE + $10. Now I don't go for the top names, but I have gotten good traffic names for $16.95 a piece. Also, I usually but a $10 bid on the big names just so I can have a shot to bid if I want to and they still seem to hit around 50% on those. I don't get anything for touting eNoms service. I am just telling you it is refreshing and GOOD.

One more thing. ALL of your domains you win go right into your eNom account within a few hours of the end of the drop. They just freaking rock compared to Pool.

Anyway, just trying to help you all out...I will never go back to Pool.

$16.95 for a choice name w/traffic is super! (Yes, I have a $6.95 reseller account, but just buy one). You can afford it by not Paying for just 2-3 names through Pool.

Good luck,
Steve

I agree, provided they catch that freaking domain. As a minimal rule, you need to hedge your bets against a minimum of 3 drop catchers - eNom CD, Pool and Snapnames. But the more, the merrier.

Also, save up for the good names so you can shock and awe during an auction.

My bidding at Pool is down by 95% or more.

I have to believe their profit is down by 75% to 90%.

Maybe, we will hear soon what Pool said at Traffic.

Hi,

How do you know how much traffic a domain is getting? Because you mentioned about getting good traffic domains, or is that after you bought it and submitted it to engines etc?

I have about 6-7 browser windows open when I am doing research. Overture, Google, Check the .com TLD or the ones around it, Multilingual, Dictionary, PR Tool, Link Tool and eNoms complete drop list.

Generally it is worth a $16.95 chance if I find one that meets some basic criteria from my research.

I also don't waste much time on domains longer than 6 characters or domains that aren't .com or .net

Just some thoughts.
