Companies like Disney were expected to be the bright lights in the Kids.us space but now disney.kids.us is dropping tomorrow. If they aren't interested who will be? Time to turn off the lights?

The kids.us domain space was a flop to begin with.

Right, Disney dropping it is amazing. Terrible job of marketing the kids space combined with too tough rules and high prices.

When it came out I reg'd some names like this example (not my name): mathkids.us instead of math.kids.us, thinking they may get some traffic too when kids got popular. Little did I realize or even dream my names would seemingly end-up actually getting better traffic than the real kids names, if they even existl.

There is NO money in kids in fact I am losing advertising money each time a child under the age of 18 types in the keywords I advertise on. I disabled "free" or "download" which curbed a large majority of it but there is still no way to flag this traffic. Content matching is another way to lose money quickly. If you haven't disabled it I would highly recommend it.

It dropped. Not found.

Duke!!! Interview Disney & Neustar among others like Zouzas. I see this as a BIG opportunity for DNjournal to grab some headlines and syndication via the regular wires. This is BIG stuff with the political involvement from the politicians and even Bush signing the thing.

I don't think there will be a bigger chance than this.

I'm curious. Is Neustar getting monies from the feds for marketing and managing .kids.us? If so, why the high pricing and expensive "content" approval fees?

I learned that Disney was not the registrant of disney.kids.us when it dropped this week. Apparently they were not interested in kids.us from the get go, which is still a surprise to me given kids are their market (also a surprise that they paid no attention to the guy squatting on their name for so long considering how carefully they normally police their trademarks - perhaps another sign of how little interest they had in kids.us). I agree that there is a story on how badly kids.us has been botched though and I will look at that. With their high prices and review fees, plus linking policy, they left zero incentive for everyday developers to use the space as there was no way to be compensated for their time and effort.

Right Duke, them not trying to reg the name in the first place was probably just as negative a connotation for the ext as them letting it drop if they actually had it.

anyone know if this is going to be a .kids
not .kids.us or .kids.ca or that kids.crap ... just .kids

now that would be good, since it would be a space for kids, fun games, edu sites for kids only
for kids everyware...

Drop the .us and high fees, and maybe you'll have something that appeals to everyone.
