Steve, good luck closing the deal!

This is an amazing story, and one that provides for much hope for us "host/hosting" .ORG owners.
Appreciate your time.
See you.

I'm curious why you think it's encouraging for host/hosting .ORG owners in general?

I would have pegged dedicatedserver.org in the Top 10 (probably in the Top 5) .ORG hosting domains, along with dedicatedservers.org, dedicatedhosting.org, webhosting.org, webhost.org, host.org, hosts.org, hosting.org, server.org and servers.org

Outside of that very limited field (and perhaps a couple I've forgotten), I doubt any hosting domains in .org are going to go much above reg. fee, and breaking 3 figures will be harder still...

Thanks, Steve ... well done, and thank you for the insight! :)
Remember to check in with us from time to time when you're sipping drinks poolside this summer. :D
See you soon.

Thanks for the comments Cool Host - I will not have much time for the drinks by the pool this summer, between management and sales - I am right out straight. Nice to think about though!!! Edwin hosting domains have been very good to us over the past 4-5 years. We at one time had huge .com hosting names and most have been sold - like ManagedHost.com and many others - We host a bit over 7000 websites so we keep some of the better ones for our uses. "I'm curious why you think it's encouraging for host/hosting .ORG owners in general? - Well we are growing our hosting side of the business at about 7-10% a month - annualized that is about 100% a year. The .org ext is not the best one for solid hosting companies but dedicatedserver.org or eservers.org or iservers.org or servers.org or racks or colocation.org will always pull a keyword and are often used as re-directs. Regional Hosting domains have been popular as well - like FloridaHosting.com - ColoradoHost.com - LondonHost.com - EuropeHost.com - IslandHost.com - ChinaHost.com - SwissHost.com - etc. We have maybe 200 - 300 other regional hosting names. Hosting is becoming a very regionalized business. The customers want tech support, a phone number and more localized service. At least that has been our experience recently. Hope that helps explain what we are seeing - Thanks again for the posts.

Steve, I was only talking about .ORG hosting names. I agree that .com is a different ballgame altogether!

I have had some luck selling hosting domains as well, and am hanging on to a few good ones (well, until the right offer comes along) such as dedicated-hosting.com :)

Hey, I just remembered ... I put up CoolHost.com for you fellows in Sunday's "Live auction" (currently atop the board). :)
Have fun.

PS. Includes CoolHost.org, naturally! :D

Congrats on the sale Steve.
But for the love of god I can't figure out why a company would pay that kind of money for a DNS name. As an admin I usually like names that I don't have to spell-check first
Kidding aside. There are plenty of .coms avail for DNS.

Good Luck!

NameCaster - Thanks for the post - I think they are just grabbing the name as an investment - The .com and net are owned by a heavy hitter, maybe that is part of it? Hey Fonz - How have you been? Thanks for the comments - Are leaving for your world trip sometime soon? When you get to the states please look us up!!! Steve

Nice company - Just wanted to make sure that they did not know something that we did not - Thus the thread today to see what you all thought about the name. Glad I posted the thread because Dr. Who said $100 and I now know it is worth $1000 min. to an end user Ha Ha... (no offense Dr. Who). Thanks so much for the post - Steve

Naaah. All companies should be dedicated. Hosting refers to the company, where server refers th the machines.

Many hosting companies have section titles "Dedicated Hosting" and "Shared Hosting" - webhostingtalk.com has an entire section entitled "Dedicated Hosting".

The term "Dedicated Hosting" is used in the hosting industry to distinguish between the rental of an entire server as opposed to "Shared Hosting", indicating the rental of space on a server that is shared with others.

I think that this is a perfectly valid term but possibly not as sought after as the dedicatedserver.org name.
