I'm going to put up a forum at the address

WorldCupForum.com

But quite frankly I don't know anything about world cup play of any sort.

So, I'm looking for feedback on categories and sub-categories that you think would be the perfect setup for this type of forum.

What I'd like to do is get people to pm me with the info above and I'll pick three finalists.

Then I'll post all three here and let forum members pick the best category/sub-category layout from among the 3.

Winner gets $25 paypal, 250 dnf bucks, and a free enom reg for use of their winning info at the end of the game.

Any questions? Any takers?

personally - i wouldnt reccomend developing it if you know nothing about a sport which has a wolrd cup. Its hard enough getting a forum going nevermind the forum being about a subject you dont know anything about.:D

WorldCupForum could be for Soccer, a very huge sport around the world including in England, Brazil, France, Italy, and upon others. Huge soccer fan bases in largely Europe, a lot of South American, Asian teams and even some good African teams. But the world cup only comes around once every 4 years I believe. Highly favourable teams are England, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany and more. The last World Cup was held in South Korea I believe, and the South Korean team was very favoured in the end.

I would break this name into a soccer board, could be very very popular internationally if its well done. Also, when soccer world cup comes around, the way they create the league is by breaking down all the teams into divisions, like 5 teams per division and they would battle it out to see who continues on. I would break forum categories into these team divisions and subcategories could list each team. It might involve a lot of subcategories, but they'll get eliminated once teams start to lose. General talk, pregame chat and predictions, all those are good too.

Anyways, let me know if I've been helpful, and if you want to pay me :) Thanks.
*Also, the next world cup will be held in 2006, Germany. Hope your patient enough!

Maybe your forum could be part of a package under the main domain of WCWorld.com - available now from Mr Webname :)

I'm sure there are more, but a quick search on Google shows that at least the following sports all have regular "World Cups":-

Soccer/Football (don't forget that women's soccer also has a World Cup)
Cricket
Table Tennis
Rugby
Judo
Karate
Snooker
Cycling
Paragliding
Skiing (various sub-categories like cross-country, alpine etc.)
Paintball (does this count as a sport?)
Billiards
Triathlon

So you might want to set things up as follows:-

WorldCupForum.com - general intro page plus guide to the sub-categories
SPORT.worldcupforum.com - discussion forums for SPORT (where SPORT is any world cup-possessing sport)

So you might end up with a central site with a few pages on it, plus a dozen or more subdomains each with its own set of forums on it.

quite honestly...
the first thought that come up was SOCCER !

WorldCupForum.Com -> probably a nice little place to talk all about SOCCER as its known in the West or FOOTBALL as it's known in the east. Either way, I think it has great potential but it sure needs devlopment.

FIFA World Cup as it is more commonly known was last staged in 2002 in Japan/Korea - the next world cup will be staged in Germany in 2006. Here's the official site for WorldCup 2006
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/en/06/loc/index.html

Suggestions to the categories for the forum ? If its run as a completely SOCCER or FOOTBALL based forum, then it should be sectionalised into the following :-
- AFC
- CAF
- CONCACAF
- CONMEBOL
- OFC
- UEFA

Each of these is the official Confederation for each location and within it, the various countries fall into one of the above. WorldCup prelimaries will start soon and its going to be about the right time to start planning and delevoping WorldCupForum.Com ... if you ask me, I think if professionally done, why not seek permission from the organizing committee for it to be endorsed as the official forum.

WorldCup is a VERY big event and so could WorldCupForum.com

Whatever the situation, I wish you the very best. If you have another other queries, please post or PM - I'll provide with whatever I can.

PS - WorldCupForum.Com can also be sectionised based on sport instead. ie Rugby has a WorldCup so does Cricket etc ... but in this way, you will be trying to attract a very diverse crowd ... would not be my choice. I'll vote for the earlier concentration on FIFA instead ....

Just my worth ...
