Do you guys think many end user's come to this forum looking for a domain name?

Has anyone ever sold to an End User via this forum?

I don't think so but we have seen some brokers coming here for an end user.

Unless, of course, the member here is looking for that kind of domain, we do see domains wanted posts quite often, if you count them as end users.

I would say no BUT If an enduser did come here, they may not pay end user prices...
If i was an end user here id be offering reseller prices if I was here..

In general I would think not... personally I have not made deal with an end user here.

I don't know of any end user sales made on this forum. I guess end users prefer to buy domains through brokers or marketplaces such as Sedo, Afternic and BuyDomains. It's easier for them and doesn't require as much time as actively browsing a forum, reading and writing posts.

Imagine what would happen if a corporate buyer posted a want ad in the Domains Wanted section. He would be flooded with hundreds or thousands of low-quality domains.

if they come here buying domains, they will be able to get their domains at much lower prices. Fortunately, they don't seem to know the existence of this forum

A few years back I bought a domain for $5 bucks on DNForum. Someone contacted me pointing to that particular thread, offering to buy it for ...$50. The domain is worth at least $1k and it was uncomfortable having to explain to him why. He ended up registering the .info - bringing more traffic to my .com

I'm both domainer and end user. I started "domaining" (over 10 years ago) by buying domains that I saw as having potential for future business ideas, intending to realize them eventually. At that time I didn't see the domains themselves as assets, and it didn't occur to me that they could be valuable in themselves, and possible to sell.
I did develop a number of them, others I have later decided to sell, and still a percentage of the domains I buy are for development of a business idea, not to sell the domain in the future.

first you have to know what an "end-user" is, before you would ever know if any visited or are currently members here.

for the most part, many believe end-users are the salvation to their portfolio's

an end-user can also be a reseller

end-user's are the people who take a domain to the final stage, from just a domain to an active, viable website.

to get the most dollar for your domains, you hope to convince some person who has "no knowledge" of the "insider trading" of domain names to buy at an inflated price.

this insider trading is called the "reseller market" where domains are sold or can be bought at prices established and based on ... "supply/demand/age/traffic/revenue" and other criteria.

the prices in the reseller market are typically much lower than what these traders would sell to an "outsider" who inquired.

the difference between reseller pricing and end-user/outsider pricing is the "mark-up" which you can convey to that potential buyer is it's true value.

there are resellers who have and will pay, what many of you consider "end-user" pricing, but you would never get those amounts if you don't know the values of your own domains.

I think few endusers come to DNF but they work in the dark with pm only...some months ago an enduser (a tech company) reply me with a link to a DNF thread.

They are few but several brokers join here.
It's full of members here logged without write a post for years, without make an introduction...

I would say yes and no.

You will often find end users who saw a domain in a thread, registered and get in touch with you to buy it.

You will find a large mixture of resellers, knowledgeable domainers and newcomers learning about the industry and in turn becoming resellers.

If they are here, then i wouldn't call them end users, because even just to find this forum you already have to know something about domaining. which would take some research.

IMO there are knowledgeable endusers here everyday...I am an enduser in my particular niche. I think unknowledgeable endusers stumble here when an exact name (they have to have) is found on a search engine and brings the EU to DNF. So yes I believe all types of endusers come here.

There are names, myself, as an enduser I have to have and will pay high prices and then there are names that and I may want, but I have multiple alternatives....and will only buy at reseller pricing - if that.

Unknowledgeable endusers do need to be educated though...when they approach you with a name they 'have to have'...sometimes a true enduser sale will takes months and months and you need patience...

The reason I ask everyone, is because I have been wondering if we shoot our toe in this forum by all the loose undervalued transaction between one another. Which is in public view and partially contributes to establishing a fair market vale for end users?

So we hurt ourself when trying to sell to end users.

We need something like OPEC, where we establish a base line so we get maximize value from end users.

If we were to all work together and have some unified pricing standard we could raise the market value of domain names just like they do on wall street and other industry.


I understand that domains are an irregular commodity, but could we find a way to standardize domain name value for purpose of a more profitable end user sale?

everyone may not or may never make an end-user sale.

and perhaps everyone is not interested in reaching an end-user...some may just want to make a profit.

whether they make 50% or 500% profit, which can still be done via reseller to reseller sales.

it would be nealy impossible to have a "unified pricing structure", though some have tried to use a certain website's data as the "going rate" for certain category of domains.

those who follow these sites and buy/sell within those margins, can make profits or leave money on the table, depending on how much they know about domaining. but using such margins can influence your own valuations and expections of what you could get at the extreme level.

sure you can have minimum pricing for those within the trading group who are willing to accept those minimums, but those who are independent, have top tier names and/or those who don't need the support of the group will always get the biggest profits.


this is why you see some members so amazed that a LLL.com sold for x amount. it's because they are following one particular "pricing structure" and have no idea of the values outside of that model.

additionally, trying to get groups together to "fix" prices will never work because there are too many crap domains.
