This is a great thread guys - where do you see .info and .biz fitting into the equation? I have some nice generic .info and a boat load of LL.biz, so I was just curious what everyone here thinks. I have a bunch of generic .net too, so I am glad to hear everyone agree that .net is the heir to the throne that will probably always be occupied by .com

I'd say that .info is good for projects that are truly on a budget and don't want to pay the listed $10.69 for a .com domain name... though the $0.89 reg fee is only for the first year. Renewals cost about as much as a .com.

I only have 2 .info domains... they're intensive purposes (d o t) info - a blog I wrote about the fallacy in saying "for all intensive purposes", as well as graphed (d o t) info, which I'm yet to develop.

They have their place, but like any other TLD, will always be below .com.

.biz is pathetic. It's targeting just another somewhat specialized, but really quite broad market (much like .us) that allows the uninformed to get names that .com might not allow them to own.

.net is the second best tld after .com apart from cctld........imho

Good question. My thinking is .info & .biz are done and drowned out with the opening up of tld's. Just not sure though.

I view .NET and .ORG as equals pretty much. There are certain terms that are better fits in .NET than .ORG and vice versa.

I am a fan of .US as I think it is highly undervalued as the ccTLD of the United States.

I would only use .org for non profit, .net if it's a super amazing name.
Probably the most asked question on DN Forum!

1 Try to think of another available .com with same keywords that makes sense

2 .net

3 .com hyphen, good SEO and blog domain.

4. .org but non profit does not sound to good at the moment.

1. org
2.net
3.us

.net or hyphenated.com without doubt.
I receive many inquiries every month for my .net domains

Have a few .org, but I don't even want to have commercial ads there, only interesting links.

I have hyphenated .com's, I have Battlefield-2.com with 450 000 exact searches per month and I can't sell it.

But I love .net's, there are many ".com, .org, .info taken - .net - available" domains, what make those .net's more valuable.

I prefer .org because most veteran domainers undervalue .org since .org was originally used as nonprofit organization so they seem to keep that frame of mind. So for product .org like for ex fishing.org food.org or even concerttickets.org or so you can get them at a fraction of the ,com maybe 1/20 or even less sometimes and easily sale them an make 10x return on your investment. And also I belive sometimes people dont care about extension , if they see a keyword domain they really sometimes extensions may become useless

I'm a reseller, not a developer & I have to say that the .net is second ONLY to .com as far as name value (@ least in my experience). I think that end users will default to the .net if the .com is taken. I think that the .net holds a higher value in the aftermarket, but it really comes down to the actual domain itself. If I wanted to start an online store selling snowboards in podunk, I'd be inclined to look for podunksnowboards dot com. I'm bummed that the .com is gone, but the .net is open. But then I might see something in the right pane of the registrar's homepage saying that snowboards.us is open. Hmmm. Decisions decisions.

.net
.org
.us

Generally in that order, but there may be exceptions for example I think .org can be a very good extension as long as it is appropriate, for some names perhaps even better than .net, but it’s no good for anything commercial IMO it just doesn’t sit right.

Estibot 2.0 example
CarStereo.com $468,000
CarStereo.net $ 7,500
CarStereo.org $ 2,700
CarStereo.us $ 2,600

My vote: net - org - us

.net definitely, except for some non-profit.

Estibot 2.0 example
CarStereo.com $468,000
CarStereo.net $ 7,500
CarStereo.org $ 2,700
CarStereo.us $ 2,600
These valuations are invalid and the disparity between the tld's listed is also invalid. The algorithms and criteria used by Estibot to produce valuations are not even close to comprehensive. Automated appraisal devices are fun and games only.

Actual sales, food for thought ...

Stereos.com $30,000 (Sedo)
Stereos.net $5,900 (Moniker/Traffic)
Stereos.org $1,188 (BuyDomains)

HomeStereo.com $30,000 (Moniker/Traffic)

.com is always king and all other extensions are great if you get nice short sweet domains.. but i agree with biggedon.. to even do the hyphens iwith a .com. Lol, on the other hand I would rather have Business.us than Make-Money-Here-Now.com. If you are going to develop the domain as a website you have ALOT more slack using a longer .com name and getting those links in that match the keywords, but if you can get a simpler .net/.org/.us that will be best for a faster flip... you don't need to develop it. Most people buy on the name and length.
But to answer the .net/.org.us question with the same name .net by far.
And as long as I ramble on.. since so many tv ads are running with .tv extensions.. that is a tld to take serious because people are becoming familiar with it
