I have found namejet very expensive worse than snapnames to be honest but yeah amphibious.com nice domain for that price...........
I tend to agree, it's hard to find bargains there, at least for me
Decent domains but heavy competition.

Snapnames is not worse than NameJet for a single reason: domains at Snapnames, Pool etc. are drops with a brand new birthday. If you want to buy old domains you can only do that at NameJet or directly via auctions from their owner.
Snapnames has prereleases too: the names from Moniker, Register.com, Doster, Directi and a couple others :)

I agree now is the time to buy. I made some insane deals lately :)

As I said, you can't generalize like this - "crap" - because there is a reason behind any purchase of magnitude. "Newbie domainers" don't throw cash around, they are either making mistakes by investing in exotic TLDs, or are rather prudent with their money. The guy with a suitcase full of cash wants that particular domain and is willing to pay a relative premium, *knowing* that he's maximizing his investment in a market that offers far higher ROI than any other market.

True i mean you buy somebody else's crap all the time the same as me but obviously in our eyes its gold, i know of a newbie who sold his company for mid x,xxx, xxx and how now started speculating in domains and i know he pays over the odds but thats he's prerogative because he has money to burn and i know he has run up some domains with another guy in a similar position it's like a game between them.........

About Snapnames, you can buy 3rd party domains from their owners via auction, but that's when the price factor kicks in: these domains have an associated acquisition cost. I would not buy "2nd hand" domains at Snapnames, I use them if a domain I really want is about to drop.

Thanks ! at least i'm not bidding against you by the way the 1999 domain i bought was a specialist british generic for $99 it must of been a drop :)

I tend to agree, it's hard to find bargains there, at least for me

That is true i think snapnames are the best at this moment in time. :)

Long may the good times continue...........as long as Acro stays away ;-)

Teamwork, that's the "doom and gloom" that you're facing in Europe, having experienced a different type of meltdown than in the US. I won't blame Karamanlis for that in Greece, like many of my co-patriots do, I will blame the gray/black market economy of Greece and that of the Old Continent. Here in the US, the economy is more dynamic and driven by entrepreneurship, unlike Europe that it requires brick and mortar industries that have long showed they cannot adapt to new technologies and new methods of shifting their resources to produce revenue. In other words, the economy is in recovery and while it will take a while to achieve record levels it's most definitely past the bottom. In the US the psychological factor of having a competent president has been accomplished. The economical stimulus is in the process of creating several million jobs, which in turn will increase industrial production and both corporate and consumer spending. I am sick and tired of hearing this "economy is bad" thing. I currently respond to email offers that mention that as an excuse for lowballing with a resounding "go **** yourself" :D

Hi theo, It's not the gloom and doom scenario. I understand there is a reality out there. I prefer to read correctly the situation than to pretend that all is normal. I was not talking either for greece situation in here. My logic just tells me that when more than 10-20 trillions get lost in world markets in just a few months (paper value anyway) and most assets and commodities collapse, and uncertainty for the future is on the rise (I suppose these are the facts today) , then nobody could prove me that the valuation of domains will hold where they were, especially when we have signs that the advertising costs will be reduced worldwide. Even gold which is supposed to be a safe bet in so-say difficult times, it's doing better than other assets but still it's lower from the highs. I can't see an exception for the domain industry where valuations will always have to go up. I think we both agree that in times like these many opportunities will arise.

There is a difference between pretending things are normal, to proclaiming that we are in dire straights. My taxes due in April to Uncle Sam will be at record highs and I project the same for 2009. Frankly, it's all a matter of not listening to the white noise and using the industry's resources to maximize profit. For every person/company that will pay less for a domain this year, there are many more that will; especially those that were able to maintain their cashflow high and their debt low since the better days of the past. In the end, the principle of Aesop's story about "The Ant and the Grasshopper" is still going strong, 26 centuries later :)

Many things happened in domain industry in the last 2.5 years.
Many domainers might become millionaires. Many many many many things……...

How about you ?
How was your experience in this period ?

What do you think after 2.5 years?

How is domain industry these days?

I think its worth discussing/verifying/analyzing and learning.:)

Thanks

I think buyers with the (right) financial resources have probably accumulated nice domains at bargain prices (in the midterm outlook) over the last 30 months.
Bingo...

And it's still a buyers market.

I think from here on in it's exactly what we want, a buyers market for domainers and a sellers market to end users.

A great market for buying, not so great for selling...

Maybe I am missing something Adam but wouldn't a sellers market for domainers be best since so many more domains are listed for sale vs the fraction being purchased and there's obviously a lot more would-be sellers here vs buyers?
