It is doubtful the individual has had much success in selling names based on the approach you outlined that he/she uses...

When the individual comes crawling back...and it shouldn't take long...you should be able to use the cut-n-paste-reply to negotiate a significant discount.

Good luck.

I would think the opposite is true the domainer probably has had great success, and is in no hurry to sell a name that makes a decent income

Yes, it would be great if the OP could quote his own email as well, and if his offer was actually lower than the minimum stated (if any). I do agree that the seller is not professional (but why should he be?). I too get a lot of low ball (lower than posted minimum) offers, I just don't reply, and I thought that was rude enough.

For those of you that asked:

My email

Hello.....XXXXXX
I noticed you own the domain name : XXXXXXXX.com
and its currently not developed into a website.

Are you planning on developing this? or is it for sale ?

I would be interested to discuss this with you on any possibilities you may have.

Best Regards
Doc

Yes this is a real person and not an automated email, so an answer either way would be appreciated.

Thank you for the pricing on your domain.
I appreciate the response and at this time my partner and I feel we could offer you 4000k for this particular domain as it fits in with what we are looking to do.
But we have a budget and that is what we are looking at spending currently.

Feel free to email me or call to discuss any possibilities.

Again, thank you for responding and maybe we can do some business in the near future.

Regards

Their reply:

I'm not interested in less than $X,XXX, so I guess you'll have to buy it from someone else. Oh right. There are 7 billion people on planet Earth... there is one xxxxxxxRestaurants.com. Let me do the math.

That's one domain name for every 7 billion people. Hmmm.... I wonder if out of 7 billion people you are the only one interested in it.... oh right... I get about one email a week for this one... wonder if I'll ever ever ever sell it.
Get lost.

I will not post the domain or the person name, there is no point.

And for those people on here that think this is an appropriate response, you people need a clue.

Nameslave and Fatter you dont know what you are talking about yet comment like you know which you do not.Get all the facts first. The reason for the post was just what it is, to see if people here on the forum had comments on what types of emails they have received.... Not defending someone that is rude and obnoxious for no reason.....Especially after what we offered for a domain of that type which we were very much in the ballpark for a legitimate offer. Its not a high volume city domain, but we offered that because in fact it fit with our project but NOT at 8k. Just because someone thinks their domain is worth that doesnt mean it is.............there are plenty of those people that are sitting there to this day with their domains that are worth xxxx and they think they are worth $xxx, xxx so lets get real.

I think you are very polite in your emails. There's no reason for him to respond like that... yeah, that's rude and it's not likely to bring any sales.

Nameslave
Why should a seller be professional ???
What kind of statement is that. This is a business not Romper Room

Okay. That depends on whether the seller is a professional domain investor or not. There are so many who simply bumped into a SINGLE good name years ago and then sit on that. This is NOT business for them and they are NOT professionals.

More importantly, if they have not advertised their domains for sale, and you just contact them unsolicited, what do you expect? There are rude people, and there are nice people. So this particular guy is rude, but he didn't ask for a sale, you did.

To be frank, I think YOU are rude in calling out my name, esp. when I didn't even criticize you at all.

I am rude because you stated they dont need to be professional
Get REAL................Its obvious people shouldnt deal with you either.

People should be courteous, it doesnt matter if they are professional as it is obvious you are not as to your statement "Why be professional."

A simply no thank you would have been fine , so get off your unprofessional high horse and get real. Be courteous and respectful when answering emails, there is absolutely no reason to be a JERK - period
Have a very good day.

trust me, denny is a fun guy really
Oh that was not me, basically 4 grand offer is not bad for any cityRESTAURANTS.com I can imagine.

But if someone tells me "I ee you are not using the domain" the automatically increases price by at least 100%....

Thanks but that email has gotten me great responses.

I am rude because you stated they dont need to be professional
Now THAT's professional. So people, make sure you don't post anything even remotely different in tone in a forum.

Since when did DNForum come to this!?

I wasnt defending the guys comments, just giving advice if dealing with domainers and a comment is included like the domain "isnt being used "you are pretty much slapping them in the face before any negotiations even begin. I dont speak like that to anyone either in emails or on discussion boards like this. Its the old developers versus domainers conflict.

Well.. I think the guy may have had some frustration on his end but I really think it was arrogance on his part.

It's a pretty bad response alright, but it works both ways in this industry... I think there are far more rude and angry buyers than their are sellers.

Especially when it comes to developers, they literally hate domainers because they were smart enough to reg names before them, endusers are just not in tune with the real market yet and the people they hire to be in tune (devlopers website types) are great at what they do but miss the common sense stuff

Like "Oh thank you very much telling me I am not using the domain name, because without you I would not know it" or rather "Not using ? It is parked you idiot, so I am using it indeed"
