Checking out airfares now - but it's a long shot. I like the way it has been put together much better than T R A F F I C. It's not modeled after the adult industry.

Hi.
I'm not a fan of rumors and misinformation - your comment about TRAFFIC being modeled after the porn industry is without merits.
It's obvious that you're observing as an outsider, because had you been there you would know that there are no topics of the event that directly relate to the adult industry. If they do relate it's because much of the adult industry happens to be online. The information that you learn at the event and take home with you will not leave an impression of pornography. Many attendees make millions with their domains, whether they are adult or not - but the event is NOT modeled after one niche or another, and topics of pornography hardly came up at the last event - if it did, it was likely in the lobby of the hotel amongst attendee chit-chat, and not in the conference itself.
It's about DOMAINS and TRAFFIC. Whatever domains the attendees or organizers own are not influential on the event itself. It's certainly not another porn event, so please dont mislead people with your opinions.
Looking at www.targetedtraffic.com - you will not see any topics of porn. It's obvious that what it's modeled after is (whats in a name) TRAFFIC.

Here is the conference schedule (not TRAFFIC West, but TRAFFIC 2005). I'll leave it to the readers to decide if it's modeled after porn. And take it a step further, you can decide what Domian Round Table is modeled & copied after.

Rick Schwartz stated on his webmasterradio.fm DomainMasters radio interview that T R A F F I C is modeled after conventions put on by the the "adult" industry. I believe that's where they got the "by invitation only" idea - since most professional organizations don't do things that way. I would not make a statement like that unless there was a reason. It sounds like it was a very worthwhile event for those who attended. I just don't like the "invitation only" model - as I've stated here before.

I'm sorry that my statement took the focus away from the Domain Roundtable conference. They have put together a great program for a much more reasonable fee. I hope there can be more constructive discussion of that particular conference. I certainly won't discuss the other one anymore in this thread, and I apologize for getting off topic.

Both China Airlines and Eva Air seem to be offering return east coast Australia to west coast USA in May 05 for $usd1K including taxes, levies, charges and whatever else.

Mind you, Eva air doesn't exactly inspire confidence by the spelling of Syndey (sic) on their web site timetables

Both go via Tapei so its 20 hours plus on a plane . Ouch!!

I am helping Jay with the Domain Roundtable Event.

Both conferences are trying to do something good for the domain industry, which benefits us all. We respect the folks at traffic and the fact that they are trying to do good things for the domain industry in their way, and we are doing it our way.

Here are some highlights on the Domain Roundtable:
The CEO Roundtable on 5/26 at the Seattle conference looks to be a pretty big deal, and there is an interesting set of sessions on dropping names and the aftermarket each day.

ICANN is going to be in Seattle to discuss current events, and most of the registrars will be present.

Domain Roundtable has participation on a larger scale, and the appeal looks like a much broader crowd. If a person wanted to learn about UDRP or transfer disputes from an acual WIPO panellist, for example.

All in all, the Domain Roundtable Conference is a good place to create new opportunities, meet up with fellow industry players and other sophisticated domain name experts, or to simply learn about the industry or components of the industry that are emerging or changing.

Hi Moe, welcome to DNF and thanks for organizing this to uplift the professionalism in the domain industry, while helping a great charity cause!

Question, why didn't Name Intelligence invite Adam Dicker of this forum to speak?

In Dec/Jan.(?), I briefly considered going to the Domain Roundtable Conference.
I even looked into booking a room at the hotel (Marriott?). And, it was
already filled. It was the deciding point. So, I decided to forget it.

From the original schedule of activities, I got the impression it was
focused more for the other segments of the domain industry.

There is room for a number of tradeshows and conferences for the domain industry
because of the different facets and segments within the internet business.

For example: domains, traffic, software, hosting, servers, advertising/PR, brokering,
venture funding, ecommerce, webdesign, etc, etc.

So, I assume we will start seeing more and more tradeshows and conferences trying to
get our attention within a short period of time.

I will be attending Traffic (East) in Oct.

Impressive list of speakers. The wealth of info to be given by the attorneys is
especially beneficial: with a lot of loonies out there nowadays, it pays to be
able to legally cover your behind. :)
