In 5 Years a Pill May Be Coming out that Revolutionizes Health. The .com of its name is of course taken. Is buying .net. .org. co.uk. etc. with its name a waste of money at this point of time?

Is the name a company/brand name? Do they have a trademark? If so you're just opening yourself up to lawsuits.

Depends on the trademark issue. Also, if it is 5 years to come out, you would need to pay for 6 years for each name to make it worth the effort.
