No - sorry, I wasn't clear - I'm going to eliminate the 1.1 version and go straight to 2.0, and as a result, it will be released well before October 31, provided testing goes well. The 1.1 features are done, but the 2.0 features are so ahead of schedule that it doesn't make much sense to release 1.1 and then follow-on with 2.0 only a week or two later.

soooooo............

what's up?

My Dropshark freezes up now when loading.

Burning the candle at both ends to get all the new features in, including a new data feed with a lot more information.

I'm somewhat ticked off at NSI for their new drop grab (not letting names delete) both because I don't like what they've done, but also because I have to get their lists separately, and I dread what that means if all registrars start doing this. It's definitely thrown a stick in the wheel these past couple of weeks.

Clemzon, what do you mean by freezes? Where in the process does it stall?

I have noticed that it is slower to load. But, it doesn't freeze.

I am impressed how fast the searches are once the dates are loaded.
Almost instantiously.

Part of the tradeoff for that speed is the complicated loading.

In the version I'm working on, though, I've taken to simplifying the loading. This next version starts up almost immediately, and then loads the tables in a separate thread, making search options available as the tables are built. That lets you start looking through lists while they're indexed, and also allows your usual searches to be done behind-the-scenes. When they're done, they show up.

But it's the new data feeds that are taking the time. Nobody anticipated NSI's move, and accounting for it (and preparing for other registrars who will surely do it as well if NSI is allowed to continue after December, when ICANN's new policy goes into effect) is taking longer than expected to do.

This is why I offered the Early Adopter license, though. Lots of good suggestions, and updates are free, even if they get delayed a bit by industry moves.

Are we getting v2.0 any time soon? I am eagerly waiting for it and I am sure the situation is same for others too.

Everything is done except for the registrars who have taken their dropping names private. Once I have a reliable way to represent their data such that I don't have to have everyone upgrade every time something changes, we release.

Network Solutions really threw a monkey wrench in this. I'm taking Thanksgiving week off (isn't everyone, though?) to wrap this up. It's now made my top-10 list of coding nightmares.

If you enable the "Load My List" feature, then no matter what registrars do the software will still be useful. Another "feature request" is to get rid of the dark background colors for saved search results (or tell me how to change it). Changing the main list background colors doesn't have any effect. When results come up black on dark blue, I'm too old to see them.

I can make that color customization with little effort, sure. And the load-list is done, too.

I'm hoping to have v2 in current users' hands as close to Thanksgiving as possible. Like I said, I'm taking that week off and using it to finish up the hard stuff.

I do so hope that ICANN puts the kibosh on registrars not allowing names to drop...
