i've seen a few firms that now do this sort of thing, but i think the word rental is better than hire

I'd say DVDsforhire.com would make more sense.

I need DVD's to create websites for me, I'm sure it would be much cheaper than paying a webmaster....
 
It's just a language anomaly. It's a UK term. In the US we hire people not things. We rent things (don't you just hate what we have done to the language)! :)

The name could work for the UK market but not if you wanted to sell overhere. Of course if it's a rental business you probably wouldn't want to ship outside your own country anyhow.
 
The "for" bit kills it.
