question Would you use a database of available domains still linked to Google Business Profiles?

This is a general or domain name related question.

I've been experimenting with a way of finding something that I thought might be interesting to other domain investors.

I'm finding domains that are currently available to register but are still linked as the website on a Google Business Profile.

I'm filtering out businesses marked permanently closed, so the interesting results are businesses that still appear to be operating and have an available domain attached to their Google listing.

As an example, during testing today I found an active business with 272 Google reviews where the website domain shown on its Google Business Profile was available to register.

I've tested this across a couple of UK towns/cities and I'm finding results that don't appear in some existing expired local-domain databases.

I'm considering building a larger database around this, with things such as:

  • Domain
  • Business name
  • Business type
  • Town/city
  • Google review count
  • Link to the Google Business Profile
  • Domain availability

Before I spend too much time building it, I'd be interested to know what other domainers think.

Would you find this sort of data useful?

And if you would, would you rather have a searchable database, downloadable lists, or alerts when new ones are found?

I'm not selling anything at the moment — I'm just trying to establish whether there's actually a market for the data.

ahh.. very very nice idea!!

that is smart - you can definitely add some automation - not sure about the Google Business database.
Thanks. Yes, automation is the direction I'm looking at. I've already got the Google Business data side working and have been testing it across different locations, so it's looking quite promising. I'm mainly trying to establish now whether the resulting data is something domain investors would actually find useful.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback! The early testing has been quite interesting. I'm finding available domains still linked to active Google Business Profiles, so I'm going to keep testing it and see how well it scales.

The dataset sounds useful, but I would treat the Google Business Profile association as both a signal and a potential risk

For each result, I would want to see:

• when domain availability was last checked;
• when the GBP website link was last observed;
• whether the linked website currently resolves or redirects;
• whether the business still appears operational;
• relevant Wayback or SEO history;
• possible trademark or identity-confusion risk.

Without observation timestamps, users could assume the record is current after either the domain availability or GBP association has become stale.

For format, I would start with a searchable database. Alerts would become valuable after you can reliably revalidate both the domain availability and GBP association.

How frequently are you able to recheck both sides of each record?

The data could be useful for research, but an available domain still appearing on a Google Business Profile should be treated as a warning signal, not automatically as an opportunity.

Agreed. I’d treat the association as a due-diligence flag rather than an acquisition signal. The database becomes more useful when domain availability and the GBP association have separate observation timestamps and revalidation status
