It's not a waste of $ if you register names that you like. Resale is a challenge dependent on several factors.

All of you seem to detest any "-" in domain names, but I feel the e- should be an exception, e-mail.com is no worse than email.com, nor is CD-ROM.cm than CDROM.com.

Hypens take a lot of wind out of the sales (pardon the pun)
tld's in a name usually sink the ship.
