I guess it makes sense, especially given that paypal is likely very reliant on ebay auctions for a big chunk of its revenue.

Maybe ebay will improve the customer service since it would reflect on them when they own it.

Hmmmm, PayPal was emerging as a method for people to pay for online gambling as some credit card companies have started blocking cc use on these sites.

Wonder what ebay's view of this will be with paypal?

Bidding and Gambling are relatively similar - both try to beat the system.

Speculation is that once PayPal and Billpoint/eBay payments are merged, the PayPal TOS will prohibit use of the system for payment of any gambling, porn, etc., services.

I wonder if eBay intends on restricting user's ability to pay for many non eBay related transactions in the future ..... Billpoint (which was owned by Wells Fargo Bank after all) was always more restrictive than PayPal ...

Looks like a well priced buy to me, seems to be on about 60 times this years earnings which seems reasonable considering the rate at which paypal is growing (seems earnings are expected to grow at 100% according to cnn for the next year or so).

Smart also considering a major risk factor for paypal may well have been its reliance on ebay, which likely had negative effect on its stock price, so it sounds like the great acquisition for ebay at a sensible price.
