So this morning I check out my auctions that are closing today. I make the bid on the one I am after ($12,000), and am told I have the winning bid for $10,xxx or $11,xxx (don't remember).

Of course, I have further obligations for the day, which some of you probably know about.

A few hours later eNom calls (while I'm out). Due to the fact that I was not able to answer the phone (or email I got) within whatever time period, eNom deleted my bid, and the auction ended this morning for $7,800, $4,200 less than what I was willing to pay.

Now I do understand that eNom is tired of fake bids (I am very tired with them as well), but I don't think this is the answer.

They need to change to more of a Snapnames system which will benefit everyone (unless there is shill bidding, which I doubt).

I was told in order to make sure this doesn't happen again, keep half of your bidding amount in your eNom account. I most definitely will not be keeping $6,000 tied up with eNom.

So yes, I understand your situation, but am very displeased. I have made purchases at eNom club drop well into four figures before.

Now so many times I feel like my time has been wasted by idiots who don't pay, they just go public. Now they won't give me the opportunity to pay! Why can't they just allow me the time to pay, and if not go to public, like we've all seen countless times.

Sorry eNom, you need a better system in place.

PS: Whoever won the auction, I will pay you my bid.

this is very bad business at enoms part !

evenso (and knocking on wood) this has not yet happened to me (and hopefully will not) and I do feel with you Steen , I do have to agree that enom needs to change their system and get rid of those who frequently 'play' on enom.

I would call them and complain...

On the other side, Enom has hundreds of potential bidders which are both real and fake bidders. So it's hard to differentiate. You were just no lucky this time and that happened. TOmorrow it will be my turn or another one's turn. You can't predict. As far as i know until now ( as a member) , snapnames.com has a very good auction policy and is better in that. BUT Snapnames.com is loosing A LOT of names. During the past week, i backordered about 30 names. I just got 1 they caught : sexymaids.com . This domain is not worth x,xxx$ but got a 1650$ final bid. All the other names went mostly at Enom and 4 of them at Pool. I know that the partnrship they made with Netsol will help but they have to try and get more names from other registrars.

Thanks

AG

i am not sure there is something you schould/could do , i would be mad as h*ll and would not sleep all night thinking what to do about it - all i would get out of the whole situation is a sleepless night - but that's just me - sometimes its just much easier to let go - however one thing is for sure enom is trying to get rid of fake bidders - i think/ actually i know [this is] the wrong way .

i do hope the highbidder will sell you the name (i know i would [for that profit])

good luck !

UPDATE: Talked to Matt (VP) and waiting to hear back.

I would like to add, both Deborah and Matt are good to deal with, just didn't like the answers I am/was getting :-)

My problem is/was with eNom's procedures, and I will be sure to suggest a system closer to Snapnames, as they seem to have the best in terms of trust and usability.

funny you brought this up because earlier I was watching a few names and the prices actually dropped remarkebly before the auction was ended. One went from over 10k (probably the one you bid on) down to like 7k. . . .

This is a really easy way to turn bidders off as well. Imagine being at an auction and the auctioneer stops the progress upward and proclaims "no wait that guy was a fake bid" > Now would you bid again or any more ? YIKES

Yes,

My $12,000 bid was the winning bid at $10,800. After my bid was deleted, the winning bid was $7,800.

I made a comment relating to this, where Enom may start 'locking out' user accounts.

The conversation also included, removing bidders from the auctions....."who previously failed to pay for winning bids"

So Steen, what I guess happened is someone up the bid and you raised it, and the person's who bid under your "high" bid, where rejected......thus the price went down and yours was wiped out.

just my hunch!

actually, what he is saying is that eNom looked at him as a 'fake' bid. they tried to contact him to verify, he was away so didn't get right back to them and in a short period of time, they removed his bid and let the domain go to the next highest bidder.

very disconcerning

The fact that "enom" attempted to contact him "via phone or email" , should be IMO, taken as a positve effort to manage the auctions in the best interest of all bidders.

Had Steen received the correspondence, within the alloted grace period,he could have exersized his options.

I missed a name in the same way, as described by Steen, so I understand!

Update: I never got a phone call back from Matt, which I was anticipating. The official winner the auction contacted me (thank you) with condolences, but made it clear that he does not intend to sell the domain (right now, to me).

I am disappointed that I never got a call from Matt (not even an email), whether good or bad.

This is ridiculous. Many of us are too busy or tied up at auction close time and can't be expected to field phone calls confirming bids.

I guess I'll be making a greater effort to check auctions at closing time. Thanks steen.
