I am looking to buy a domain name for a website having to do with anything game releated. I already have the domain name I want picked out
but it was already registered and for sale for $12,000. I talked the seller down to $8,000, but I still feel that this is way overpriced. I don't want to give the exact name, so I am looking for a ballpark figure on the following domains. Keep in mind that this domain is completely undeveloped and has no link popularity at all :

x = any number or letter

x3D.com
3Dx.com

What is the ballpark going rate for this type of domain? I am assuming that "3D" will up the value some. I am watching some 3 letter domains go for $2000.00, do you think that $8000.00 is overpriced?

just an opinion since I dont know the domain:

a 3 letter .com that menas something can in some cases go for $8000. In other cases, much, much more (sex.com).

However, a 3 *character* domain, one that is made up of letters and symbols or numbers, usually does not go that much.
Now, here, you are a little in the middle. Because '3D' by itself means something, so even combined with another letter, will still get some value.

All that said, I wouldnt pay $8000 for a 3 *character* .com
a 3 letter .com (and one that means something, even as an acronym, is a different story).

That's just my opinion, hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply. I agree. I am almost considering trademarking the domain becuase I want it for a brand. Do you think owning a trademark on the name would make the seller let it go for a more reasonable rate?

If he/she has the domain before you do, I can't see how that can make a difference.

I am no lawyer.
It is better you ask in the legal section.

and get more opinions from other members before you put any money.
