- The site itself is very clean - completely composed in valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and the entire design is in CSS-P
- All the software was developed by us. The entire search, rating, and review system.
- The domain itself is worth $xx,xxx [and was also acquired for $xx,xxx]. It never expired and thus has accrued links over time. The web hosting directory section is a subfolder and has earned a PR6 on its own merit.
- The site has 2 dmoz listings
- There are almost 500 web hosting plans listed, with over 125 user reviews
- The site has no unnatural links. It has no reciprocal links, and if I was to sell it today, the links pointing to that site would not change in any manner. I have kept this site external to all other sites I own.
- It has a dynamic button that web hosts can place on their site and show off their ranking. Right now there are various web hosts that do.
- The domain itself is not limited to just web hosting. As such it has a sister section that has unique content, all of which was composed by me
- The site gets type in visitors
- Other than from Jan 2005->Feb 2005 traffic has gone up *every* month. Again please note once we put up the directory that was it. I asked a few friends to add their companies [I have been doing 'stuff' in the web hosting business for over 5 years]. The first month was under 1900 unique visitors, and this month over 8000. Noting this to emphasize that it is qualified traffic, not just because of the domain.
- The directory structure is SEOed to the hilt. Over 3000 pages in google. All the major SEs [google, Yahoo!, MSN, Ask] have crawled the website over 1000 times this month.
- The site itself is all statically generated. Click 'generate' and voila the entire directory is updated.
- In our directory, we do have one affiliate link active [the rest of the directory listings are all natural]. This year that one host has gotten 88 clicks from us, 8 sales, and a commission total of $115 [hostgator.com]
