I did post this a few days ago but didnt get any replies. Please forgive me if reposting is against the rules, but by coincidence i notice EJS asked for an appraisal of the .com version of this name and got 19 replies today. (then again he is a regular)
Does this mean that the mobi version is worthless. I thought that if you could check delays on your mobile when away from a pc would be a good idea?
Any thoughts as to its value (or lack of :) )
Thanks guys

Probably better than the com. IMO if your stuck in a foreign airport with connections to make.

Go for it and develop a neat site.

Probably better than the com.

yeah, definitely 10 times more than the dotcom. Maybe a billion dollars?

Seriously, it's a good use for .mobi. Most people will check flight delays before they leave for the airport. But you will have a smaller amount that are already traveling and will use mobile devices for this. Of course the .com could handle both of these situations. But if .mobi were to succeed, this would be a nice one.

I think you're pessimistic in your evaluation. I've heard a Media Mogul is preparing a bid for 55 billion

I wasn't implying more monetary value, it would be of more use to me to check connections on the move. A point which you have made well in your next para. It may be worth a 1/10 of the .com at present due to the youth of .mobi, 3-4 months old. With maturity it will improve I am sure.

current value reg fee +

developed and in use for six to twelve months or so $xxx low to mid IMO

I was just messin with you. Sometimes people talk about .mobi as if it can do something that .com cannot do. this is not the case. Dotcom can still send you to a mobile optimized interface, either directly or by offering a link. Eventually all dotcom sites will probably offer a link for mobile interface. So the person who uses dotcom at home will still use the same dotcom on the road.

And I'm working on it. Mobiliser.mobi will strip out the necessary. I am building a server based app ATM.

There are some development hurdles. For instance my mobile plan reams me if I use it out of the US.

You might consider flightdelayed.mobi (which is more natural to me personally) in addition to or instead. DNF appreciated.

Clearly I like the name, but nobody outside this biz has ever heard of .mobi. As I am typing this from my Blackberry, I can say that I would probably not ever type in a .mobi. If I am looking for ESPN, I hit up ESPN.com on my browser here. I have to disagree with the person who valued it more than the .com. No matter what, .com is king. Even if the .mobi were developed, people would assume a .com anyway and enter that, imo. On the road, it is probably easier to just call the airline, especially if driving in the car. At home, it is easier to hit up the internet and see what the delays look like before leaving rather than waiting on hold. Again, I think it would probably sell on Sedo for low $x,xxx while the .com is worth far more (in fact, I received an offer in the $10k range already from a previous buyer even though I said I wasn't interested in selling).

I think some people are losing touch with reality here thinking .mobi is anywhere near .com or is gonna be anywhere near the .com in the next 5 years... sometimes people that buy tons of mobis are so into it that they dont realize that 95%+ of the population has never even heard of .mobi, mid $$ right now IMO
