Because it will not mean anything to most people in Spain and would likely get as many visits as frutas.co.uk or fruits/frutas .pl in your countryrejli said:
The other european tld's mainly look to be holding pages for domainers, apart from the .dk where I think they have branded "fruits" as an IT company - also every Dane I have met speaks better English than the English.
Apart from some major keywords, or if you think the word could become a global brand, it's best to avoid mixing the languages/tld's imo.
