You are right. I did not take $9K and have no plans to accept such an offer.

We all know that the appraisal/value of a domain is only as good as the size of the cheque someone is prepared to write at a particular point in time. That being said, I would have held on to it at 9k at that time too. But it does raise some interesting questions

If there is any quantifiable value to valuaing doamins based on the two examples given (US Overture and Google), I have to wonder what the appraisals would be for the following:


voyeur.us

March Overture: 418,285 (over 10 times that of genetics)
Google: 2,950,000


check.us

March Overture: 243,696
Google: 75,900,000 (25 x's higher than genetics)

Not trying to steal your thunder URL, it just makes for some interesting comparisons.

onscpec: the overture doesn't mean that much. It's how big the market is. The word "and" would give loads of search results, but the market for "and" isn't really big.

genetics.us is better than those names clearly imho

Among your names genome.us has much less overture and google count than voyeur.us or check.us but my gut feeling is that genome.us is more valuable than your other names. Time will tell if my gut feeling is correct or not.

I think genetics.us is a great generic, worth holding. The question is, will people be going to a site with that name, to buy stuff? It's a little different than paintball supplies and casino gamblers.

Using banks as an example, who trade on their reputation, they have names that inspire confidence, and authority. You don't see Joe's First National or Wal-Mart Bank on every corner.

No doubt genetics will become very important to a lot of people, but how can that be put to use on the web? Will the genetics field splinter off to hi-tech or university sounding names, for that added aura of respectability, like banks?

I think it would be a great industry portal for the entire marketplace - Not just a product site - Industry Resource Center - We have one planned for Tennis.us - not to sell tennis balls or shorts, but to cover the entire industry. This is a "high ticket" portal domain name. Dr. Who know what is going on with this one as above....

With the completion of Human Genome Project recently a lot of action will be seen in the field of Genetics. I have DNAmap.com ,DNAcode.com , GeneticLab.com , GeneticEngineer.com and couple of more high end domains related to Genetics/Biotech . Let us see how things turn out. I have high hopes from this industry and my domains.
