to be honest i dont think adwords would be worth it as you are not selling a product directly - you are merely advertising other sites which arent neccessary related to your site

personally id develop a few other small sites and drive traffic towards your shed site:D

doh - didnt even see that - i was looking at the argos ads etc on the home page

what i would do is try it for 2 weeks or something and see the return you get - if it works out being profitable then keep it going :)

maybe i should look at my advert placement, and make it more text based in the news, and features ....

i don't know, iam in the middle of a spinning shed, thats all i SEE!

the main keyword that people serach and they end up findinggthe site, changes week on weel, this week they have been mostly typing in....

google:
sheds uk
shed plans uk
underpants cardiff
STORAGESHED
bare bottom

yahoo:

naked christine hamilton
tanya robinson

but pie safe plans brings me in a few every week

I really like your shed site unclewilco,

The main reason for this thread was simply to make a point that getting into Google is easy and free..you dont need to pay $65 to be listed.

Ranking is everyones "problem".. the absolute best thing you can do is first clean up the clutter.. all the insignificant ads all over the place, just do a little house cleaning on the site.. your "sheds" are starting to get lost amoungst your advertisements..

People smile when they understand that your site is REALLY about "sheds" .. how people need and love those sheds.. they take on personalities.

I hope you really get back to that part of it.. you'll pick up a lot more traffic simply from word of mouth.

I would find a couple more keywords that you would like to be found for

68154 storage shed
35781 shed
11915 garden shed
9429 shed plan
4699 shed plan free
4634 tuff shed
4608 build a shed
4205 building a shed
3999 storage shed plan
3786 shed kit

..

Consider this..google takes into account your domain, your title tag, your content... (when comparing to actaul search term)

how many of the above keywords I listed above are you being found on? little /none ?

I would fix your title tag

"Readersheds.co.uk - where you share your shed - site for sheddies on the web - shedtalk, shedshop, shedfacts"

For one thing it is too long.. shorten it up and to something that first of all peple are searching for :

Title= Storage Sheds , Sheds and shed kits

Then make sure you also use those 3 "keywords/phrases" also in your content/ make a few paragraphs near the top.. close to where the bot first starts "reading" ... you want your customers as well as the bots to understand before anything ewlse..before the cool jokes, before the advertisements before the pictures. your site is about Storage Sheds.. after that is established then you can give the site it's "personality"

So change your tags and content to represnt what people, are actually searching for ..use a keyword density tool similiar to this..

http://www.keyworddensity.com/

I'm not going to go into to much detail, but the general idea is that for the keywords you want to be found on should represent arond 15% or so.. if you keyword stuff..you'll be penalized/.. if you dont include enough keywords (density wise) then you wont rank as well.

Doing this alone will move you up in ranking.. how high ? depends on your competition.. for "storgage sheds" their are only 143,00 pages of competition.. I think you can rank on first page fairly easy.. I see the first 3 sites have arond 35 back links.... but by the time you get to the bottom of the first page thoise sites only have a few backlinks..

So that would be your next step.. find 5 other sites that will link to you in addition to cleaning up your title tag , fixing your text content with the proper keywords and density of those keywords.

Then add a few links..
in the next update after you finish that you will be listed on the front page under the search keyword "storage sheds"

Good Luck..

OK bidawinner. I got one for you. Thanks in advance for your help. How would you improve 50gamesites.com ranking? There is not really any content nor should there be (for this type of site.)

Your comment that their isnt any content nor should be (for this type of site) ..is what's hurting your ranking more than anything else..

...I would even tend to agree with you.. you should be able to puty whatever you want on your website..all images, frame pages , flash, javascript .. whatever

But the probelm is if you WANT to rank well on google the easiest way is to "feed" googlebot what googlebot is looking for.. content, textual content .

But I can see you are the stubborn kind.. :D you can still rank but it will take LINKS.. lots and lots of links.. The single most important thing along with content is links for google ranking...

Do this for me, your main search term should "game sites"

Look at the results for "Game sites" on google..the second result is a site called http://www.top100gamesites.com/ very similiar as to what you want to do.

What is the single largest thing this site has that yours dosent ?

Now go to http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/

enter http://www.top100gamesites.com/

Thats what it will take...

Again this thread was not started to help everyone with ranking..it was in response to someone trying to sell DNforums members "indexing" in google for $65 ..which most understand is ridiculas ..to be indexed in google requires ONLY one thing.. at least ONE link from another site and google will find you..if they dont simply submit
http://www.google.com/addurl.html

As far as ranking Google tells it pretty much the way it is..
