Hi

I registered a few domains with GoDaddy yesterday.

At this point the domains havn't come live.

A check at whois.internic.com lists my domains and their associated name servers. Checks with several other whois servers list my domains and as having godaddy as the registrar.

But a check on the whois.godaddy com shows no records for my domains. Shouldn't GoDaddy itself be the first to list my domains or is it because they only update the whois server once a day...or something like that?

Just wondering.

Hi,

After a domain is registered it takes 24 hours at least to come live - that's because of "propagation" ie for the internet to know it's there. Same for any host changes.

InterNic can not have the WhoIs info, unless they got it from GoDaddy - but GoDaddy's WhoIs might be haveing problems, as most registrar's do now and then.

Thanks DotComster

I knew about the propogation time, just thought it was odd that the GoDaddy whois server didn't have my domains listed.

One question....

what is the 'defining' whois server as to whether a domain is available or not - is it whois.internic.net?

There is a 'thin registry' model in place at the moment.

Internic has info about the domain's nameservers and where the domain is registered.
Each registrar is supposed to maintain their registrant's details.

I ever registered a .ws with GODADDY, I think their service is quite good.

Now they even provide free domain name locking, free registrant change and even proivide their reseller with a platform to sell domain registrations, like PDQ of ENOM.

I believe they will have a rapid growth soon.

As I already said, price is not always the only thing.

You can find a price of USD 6.50, but few people are with it.
