I have this site, and Google shows 2,320,000 pages for the keyword in question (I own keyword.ext). Ive been checking on my site and just saw a significant progress regarding my rank in google. Bellow are dates when I was checking, followed by the results:

18.4.03 - page 6, link 4 (rank: 54)
08.6.03 - page 5, link 8 (rank: 48)
25.7.03 - page 5, link 7 (rank: 47)
28.7.03 - page 3, link 2 (rank: 22)

Notice how it divided into half in less than 3 days?

As if thats not enough, Ive just found out that I dont even have any meta keyword tags (nor description tags or anything) set up ;) Dunno how that happend, but I sure will take care of that now. Considering that Im already ranked as a 22 site for that term (as you can see its a very often used keyword - 2,320,000 google pages), is it fair to expect that my rank will improve even more, once goggle crawls the new index with those keyword tags in it? Thanks.

Take care, Restecpa

google put very little emphasis on meta tags since they can be abused so easily - infact the majority of times they dont even lool at them

the title tags, content of the site and domain name are more important as well as how many recipricol links etc you have

Google may not rate your keywords highly, but they at least use the description sometimes if your keywords are part of the description. Your well written description with your most important key words will look a whole lot better than some of the random descriptions that will otherwise be made up by Google.

Another reason to get them in is other search engines do use them more than Google does.

Thanks guys, thats what I thought. Ill keep my fingers crossed though, and see what hapens next time google crawls it. How often does it anyway?

Lets say the exact keyword is "Dinner", which of those title tags would be better: "Dinner" or "Dinner - Time". Curently my title tag say "keyword - something" but am now thinking would it be better if it were just "keyword"? Thanks.

Restecpa, are you using any header tags on your page?

Sponk, thanks for a hint. No I havent used them, but have read few articles now and it seems to be a good idea. I just dont like the fact that H1 enlarges text so much.. Is it ok to use those headers for relevant words, but use font tags to make them small? ie: <H1><font size="2">tralala</font></H1>? Or is that considered "cheating"? Thanks!

Make them smaller in your style sheets.
