Remember too, there are sites that manage to coexist peacefully with google, such as googlecommunity.com, google-watch.org, googlerankings.com, logoogle.com, etc.

You can co-exist, but the point is the name has a TM problem, so google can go after you whenever they want to. good luck!

Google has issues with blogging related to their business model and disclosures of adsense info. Therefore, I see little use for it.

Thanks, and you're right, there is a calculated risk involved here that depends on large part how the domain is developed.

One could go the nonprofit/consumer watchdog route like google-watch.org and act in the interest of the public good. This would entitle the developer to recover expenses for hardware, bandwith, and salaries for employees. In this instance no bad faith is manifested by attempting to profit off of googles TM.

One could also form discussion groups relating to all things google as is the case with googlecommunity.com. Disclaimers placed conspicuously on the site announce in unequivocal terms there is no association with or endorsement by google. In this instance there is no attempt to mislead consumers or tarnish google's TM.

Following similar development strategies may make it more difficult for google to claim TM infringement.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I did receive an offer for 5K in mid 2004, and I'm beginning to wonder if it was a mistake not to sell then.

I haven't tracked stats for googleforums.com since 2003. It seemed unnecessary because the domain was never promoted in any way, nor was it ever submitted to search engines.

I do know that according to Overture the keyword 'forums' was searched 142045 times. Strangely, the other keyword, 'google', or any combination including the keyword 'google' does not show results on Overture.

Additionally, a search for "google forums" on google turns up 59,100 results, and a search for 'google forums', minus the quotes, brings back 17,400,000 results.

Google will eventually go and scoop up all the TM names out there , publicly traded company now and shareholders will eventually squalk about it and initiate a round up of names , yours will make the list I think.

I do not think that Google will C&D him as long as he doesn't compete or create an anti-google site.

Publically traded or not..they can't piss off everyone with a google fan site. It's just bad for business. I see no harm in the name and as long as google doesn't they MIGHT leave it alone. Of course a 5k offer shouldn't have been accepted. I would contact that person and see if they would make another offer in that range. I would take any x,xxx offer as well on this one.
