I have been looking to get a dedicated server from RackShack.net and I just wanted to know if anyone of you have used them before.

Are they good or are they bad?!?!?! :D

Thanks in advance...

This board is being hosted at RackShack.net, so they can't be too bad. :)

I use 4webspace.com, but if I was doing it again I might go with RackShack. www.webhostingtalk.com would have a lot of comments as to the pros and cons.

If you are a server admin or know a good one
and IF you do not need good fast support
and IF you don't use control panels or need them much

Then RS is good.

Rackshack is great on price. Lousy on service and flexibility.

They are slow to respond to service request. You can't talk to a technician. The person you do talk to, can't even talk to a technician.

If you need great service, use datapipe.com. They are quite a bit higher though.

I have 2 of my own servers (colo'ed at 2 different farms) ... I am getting ready to get a server at RS ...

Everything that has been said thus far is correct ... If you are gonna deal with RS, then I hope you are a linux/hosting brain ... If not, then might I suggest you pm me ... I have an AWESOME contact that handles quite a few RS accounts ... He is the only reason that I decided to get a RS server, as he is handling the entire migration of 300 + domains over ...

Can you tell me what is your contact or admin. person charging you per month per server for the service and how often are you using him? I am also thinking of moving to rackshack but my lack of experience in linux admin. is the only problem holding me back.

I now host with theboxnetwork.net who are a managed server company reselling the 1.7ghz intel boxes from rackshack.net

the price which was on offer last month was $170 per month which includes the $129 server, a firewall and a packetfilter plus someone monitors the server.

so far the guy i talk to (aaron, posts on WHT as alapo) has been more than helpful... he is working on an anti leeching script for my customer at the moment to help minimise our bandwidth usage.

Thanks ciqala for the info

theboxnetwork.net looks good. Particularly its $25/month plan for monitoring and admin. of server is priced well.

hostlane.com offers a service called Silver Street and it's less than $20 a month.

RackShack.net is our server of choice for our community site.. as well, we will be adding more domain/sites on RackShack in the near future.

Never had any trouble.. I'de recommend them.

I use DialTone.com managed hosting for my community site. I chose them as I had sites hosted on my friend's server there for almost 2 years with virtually no downtime other than perhaps 5 minutes twice in a year for maintenance and got a notice beforehand. Exceptional service and Free unlimited IP#'s.

I think Rack Shack is sort of touch and go, depending which server you're given. Plus as said, you need to be able to handle the server alone to take advantage of the great deal.

they are OK, unless you really need managed service - backup, remote hands service, OS patches/updates, managed firewall and all that stuff ;)
