Interesting thread, but I believe there are a few misconceptions here.

The name is no longer directly relevant to search engines. So many people have bought names just to lie to SEs that they ignore them now, same goes for meta tags. It is relevant for link popularity though,

Having a hyphen loses you a lot of type-ins, so they are worth less.

For adult sites, names are irrelevant for gallery submissions.

Name is important for building a free site, or tgp etc. and for type-ins. A good brandable fun name that catches the mind of the surfer and is easy to remember is best.

Domainpairs - I have to disagree with you regarding whether or not search engines look at the domain name. I have read way too much to the contrary.

They may not weigh them as heavily as they used to, but they still count them.

Options - as far as the www-quotes.com is concerned, you are right that you cannot put in w-quotes.com but if you use any of the common words that they exclude you can achieve the same results.

An example is: the-quotes.com - google ignores this word and many other common words.

There are so many combinations that could be used that the search engines will quickly figure out what is going on and fix that (if they haven't already). You may get some short term rankings on the search engines but why would you want to build a site for short term results?
