There is always talk about lowball offers, but what is the highest first offer you've ever gotten?

Mine is $5000 for a four letter first name .ca

Second was $3500 for a pronounceable lllll.com

How about you?

I had $15,000 or $20,000 (can't remember) initial offer for LLLLL.com
However, nothing happened other than few email exchange.

Getting offers mean nothing until it produce completed sales.

It is nice when the first offer is in the ballpark of what your asking price would be.

The amount is irrelevant IMO.

If you bought a name for $10K and get an offer for $11K vs buying a name for $10 and get an offer for $1K.
Which offer would you rather get?

Most of my offers start @$500

I have received a huge starting offer on a name I have no interest in selling - I politely declined...Then they more than tripled their offer and said that was the max - and I declined with no counter as well (just did not tell my wife on that one - she would have killed me for not selling or even negotiating).

John, did you fail math at school? :D

From $10k to $11k that's $1,000 profit.
From $10 to $1k that's $990 profit.

Don't worry - She will not kill you until you sold the name and has the money.

Using $10K to buy $10 names and wait for my chance. We talk about ROI.

I think he was talking about profit percentage.

$10K to $11K is only 10% profit
$10 to $1K is like 10,000% profit

Edit, he posted before I could get it out...

Yes, but the person offering usually doesn't know what you paid for the domain. A large first offer is kind of special because so often the first offer is low, no matter what the name. A large first offer on a domain you paid reg fee for is even more special.

In any type of business, cash is king. That's why I stop buying LLL.com names several years ago after I sold about 30 of them.
You get a high offer but you have to invest a lot of money and it's risky for these acronyms dot com.
I switch to LLL .net and .org and have sold many in the range of $5-$10K recently.
