I have a very important message for all domainers. I have bought 1 month ago the domain cwr.com (Registrar Networksolutions) over Sedo for USD 19950 and the transfer happened successful after a few problems with an invalid Authorization Code for a transfer to my GoDaddy account, I decided to takeover the domain to my account by Networksolutions. But yesterday Network Solution has transferred the domain back to the old owner without any information. I have opened a ticket by Network Solution and they explained me that the domain was hijacked and sold later and also back transferred to the old owner.
Sedo hasn't checked well the whois-Informations with the seller contact information, which was somebody from Mexico.
Now I have lost my money and for Sedo is the task closed when the domain is transferred.
A warning on all domaines that can happen to everybody which buy a domain on a non-registrar-platform like Sedo.

This is pretty bad - a warning to people not to use sedo for sales. Let us know if they have anything to say about it. I wonder how much of this is due to GDPR in whois details which I (correctly it seemed) predicted would *only* benefit spammers and thieves.

I was thinking the same, but even with that, you should always also check historical information if you are spending a large sum of money on a domain asset.

according to whois history, registrant was:

RJR Enterprises
PO Box 11100
Kansas City, MO 64119-0100
US

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
Risley, Chuck cwr@CWR.COM
RJR Enterprises
15142 E Cholla Crest Trail
Fountain Hills, AZ 85268
US
(816) 591-4255 fax: 480-659-8043

Record expires on 01-Nov-2020.
Record created on 02-Nov-1995.
Database last updated on 30-Sep-2012 01:16:06 EDT.

i'd try to get sedo to give me refund or credit.
as the system of verifying "authenticity of ownership", is flawed.
and as such, would have same faults across other marketplaces that use similar means to verify domain ownership

imo...

WTH....Sorry to see this happening to you.
Sedo needs to do the right thing here and return your money and pursue the thief themselves.
So much for a secure purchase or sale at Sedo.

Frankly this will become more of a problem for all of the market places going forward in the post GDPR world.

This makes investor to investor sales a risky proposition unless you actually know your seller. So my advice would be to buy your names from DNForum.com sellers that have a proven track record instead of using anonymous trading platforms such as Sedo.

Thanks for your good advises. I have already contacted Sedo and they are not willing to pay back the money while the Transfer was finished and they are no more responsible. I should have to contact the seller in Mexico which is certainly a fake.

I know its going to take money to get a lawyer, but for 20K, you may want to do so. We have a few that advertise on here even. Suing either the thief or Sedo is going to be expensive though, so weigh it against your chances of recovering your money. Also, read the TOS and see if it has any loopholes.

No excuse and nothing heard from Sedo now. The race has now just started. It's just the beginning. I will then publish this story everywhere on the web. Everybody shall know what can happen, when you buy domains from network solutions accounts. This should not happen again. Such stories destroy all the domain business in the future.

Its not the first time this happens unfortunately. I buzzed a sedo rep on Skype. He told me he would have someone look into giving an answer here.

Thanks for your help, but I already contacted Sedo by phone on Friday and they told me that they cannot do anything. I would have to take an attorney. I want not take an attorney against Sedo in Germany. For this problem are other 3LLL domains stolen (NVX.com GHE.com, etc.) I have found out.
The domain CWR.com is listed again on Uniregistry.com for sale.
Can nobody stop this pirates?
