Hi guys,
I am looking for shared hosting plan, where I can use HiveMail script to provide web mail service to my clients...

Could you please tell me what type of hosting plan I should get if I want to create 200 - 300 accounts with 2 MB/ account?

i wrote to RocketHost and some other hosting companies regardign this, and I got reply from HostRocket so far: " Based on the information provided, hivemail will work on our servers. Although the email gateway will not."

What does this mean? (in plain english :)

Thanks for the help.

Here is from the HiveMail support page:

There are two ways to find out whether your host meets the system requirements.

1) You can create a PHP Info file. Simply open Notepad and type this:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
and save it as phpinfo.php. Then upload it to your server and access it in a web browser. If you receive errors, then one of two things is wrong: either your host has disabled access to phpinfo, or your server is not running PHP or it is misconfigured. Either way, you will need to proceed to the second method, below. Otherwise, you should receive a screen full of information regarding the PHP installation on your server.

You first want to look at the top and look for the PHP version number, which is listed at the top next to "PHP Version". It should be 4.1.0 or higher. (It might read 4.1, which is also fine.) Also at the top, look in the Configure Command box for
'--with-mysql'
This means PHP is compiled with MySQL support. This is also required. Next find "safe_mode" on the page, and look across that row. Both columns to the right in that row should say Off. If they do not, you will not be able to successfully run HiveMail.

If your PHP version is 4.1.0 or higher, compiled with MySQL support, and Safe Mode is off, your PHP installation meets the requirements.

Next, you will need to determine if you have an email "catch-all account." This is a special email account that receives all email sent to addresses that you have not specifically configured to receive mail. For example, if you have set up an account for [email protected], and someone sends email to [email protected], that email would go to the catch-all account.

Most hosts today provide a catch-all account; many list it as a feature on their webpages that describe their services, so that's the first place to start looking. If you don't see it there, and your host provides access to an online Control Panel for your hosting account, look in there. If the control panel is named Cpanel, it will be under the Email settings. Other control panels, including Ensim and HSphere, provide similar settings, so take a look around to see if you can find it. If you can't find it, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist - you may need to contact your host to ask if you have a catch-all account. If you do not have a catch-all account, and you do not have access to edit the valiases file for your domain (if you don't know what this is, you don't have access to it), then you will not be able to successfully run HiveMail.

Next, you will need to determine if you need to use the Pipe or POP3 methods of email collections. If you have access to your valiases file via SSH or Telnet, then you can skip this section as you are already set to use the Pipe method. If you do not know what this is, as mentioned above, you most likely do not have access to it. If you don't have access to it, you might still be able to use the Pipe method, though. If you have an online control panel for your hosting account, and it's called Cpanel (the URL that you use to access it will likely have the word cpanel in it, as in www.yourdomain.com/cpanel, if you have it), then you can use an alternate method of setting the Pipe up. You'll simply need to enter the appropriate line for your catch-all email address through Cpanel (as further explained in the Installation Instructions here and here.)

If you don't have access to your valiases file, and your host is not running Cpanel, that's OK, however you will need access to something else, called Crontab, also know as Cron Jobs or just simply Cron. Most likely your host provides a web-based interface to this; if they don't, you may need to contact them to have them set it up for you, or they may require you to set it up via SSH or Telnet. Instructions on setting up cron jobs from the command line can be found on About.com's Focus on Linux site here .

If your host meets the requirements as delineated above, then you are ready to purchase and install HiveMail.

2) If you are not able to determine whether your host meets the requirements, you can contact your host and ask them the following questions:

- Is the version of PHP installed 4.1.0 or higher?
- Is PHP compiled with MySQL support?
- Is Safe Mode off?
- Does my account have a 'catch-all' email account?
- Can I edit the valiases file for my domain, or alternatively do I have access to the 'Cpanel' control panel to set the catch-all address for my account?
- Do I have the ability to set up and use cron jobs, either through a control panel or manually?
The answers you need, in order, are:
- Yes.
- Yes.
- Yes.
- Yes.
- Yes to either editing the valiases file, or access to Cpanel.
- Yes, if the answer to the previous question is no.

It looks simple enough, I think the trick is the installation, did you purchase the license with installation? If so, I could help you out.

Integration will not work at this point until 1.3 goes gold(final version). It is broken for vb versions RC2-RC4 and not yet fixed for gold.
