I have felt like that for a couple of years now. I was one of the first people to join the forum. Back in the heyday, everything was good.

Now, like you say, it is all bickering and who can be one-up on everybody else. If you answer a question, you usually get a thanks for the original person, but there are 10 people waiting to rudely tell you just how wrong you are. *sigh*. There are many things that irk me about what the domain community has become (not just DNF), but that is the subject of another post.

I do not participate in discussions anymore. It is not worth the time, effort, or ensuing aggravation. If I have anything to say, I usually PM the person. The extent of my posting is usually to put something up for sale. I have even gone to the extent that I ONLY read domains wanted, and the occasional post that is on the forum front page that catches my eye, and SOME forsale posts.

I am now going back to my little hole.

every year though, you get a few new one's who will attempt to join that circle of "p-contesters" and a few who been in that circle for a while will try an distance themselves from it.

i think it takes a level of personal maturity that should have been formed long before they found domains. everyone cannot engage in spirited conversation without subverting to personal attacks.

the superego can't rationalize, so it's hard for them to separate discussion from the id. everything is seen and taken as an attack on their ego.

it's an interesting phenom, especially since we're in a virtual community.

but it's never to late to grow

As with many forums, there are always some members try to be the smart a** and waiting to show off "I am the one who knows everything and don't even try to argue with me".
These same people will always post negative comments/remarks: the market is down, the economy is bad, etc... and you will wonder why they don't make a dime because they devote the time for the non sense things.

I would not be worry about that and I think most members know who they are. So just ignore them and move on.

One last thing, I don't know what your husband will say when all of the sudden you come home with pink helmet and red armour!

Your right, I remember being a much sweeter person online before coming here. Thank goodness it hasn't changed me in my daily life.
