I have the domains desiweek.com
Desi is another word referring to indians from india.

What kind of site should I make with that name?
I think an informational/news type of site would be great, but I was leaning more towards like an entertainment site that has local events and entertainment.

What do you think?

Make it a portal for US-based Indians. News, local events, culture. People who have been transplanted like to be able to get together with others of the same background.

I'm not from India, but I know a few people who are - and know some miss home and like to associate with like-minded people.

Maintaining a Desi site containing Local events & entertainment is time consuming, unless you come up with a way to automate the the local event submission, but then you will have to monitor the spammers.

I am speaking from my personel experience.

I have to agree that a niche-based portal is more feasible unless you hava really deep pockets comparable to the big guys. I would even go further to narrow the scope of your Indian-based website to a certain aspect, like entertainment only or sports only to make sure that it is one of the few available if not the best around. desiweek.com is just begging to be a news portal for indians . I don't think I can have a niche there .. a news portal would contain indian news of all types ..
