We've all heard it among each other...

"We are contemplating a development plan for this domain name but will consider reasonable offers."

etc. etc.

So, when I was actually developing a domain, in my search for content, I found a few websites doing effectively the same things that I'm doing.

And so domainer instinct set in, and I sent off the emails offering the name to them.

But this time around, I decided to mention that I've been developing the name, and besides the opportunity to purchase it, I offered to feature some content of theirs on my site in the case that they don't need any more names, which would be free exposure and backlinks for them.

The emails just got sent off a few minutes ago... but how is this as a strategy for selling/getting content for developed names? Good? Could use work?

I guess you will find out by any response you receive.

They might not want more competition and be interested in buying the domain, or they'll want the exposure on your pages.

Either way it could benefit you. It makes the domain look better if you aren't only selling it, so it's probably better than a pure sales email for sure.

Content is cheap. If it's high quality content might be worth the effort.
I do that a lot from the other side of the deal - offering other sites to use my content in exchange for links.
