how effective would it be to register the .org, info, biz, along with the .net and .com's of a domain? would i be wasting my money and simply over exagerrating my presence, since other ccTLD's can also be registered?

I think if you have the dot com that is usually enough, depending on what the website you want to make will be about.

If you're going to run strictly a store or a service based website, then registering the .net .org .info .biz .us may be worth it.

Personally I would go with reg'ing both the com and org and forget the others you mention, in most cases. Often only reg'ing the com is best (if available). At times I feel the org works as well, perhaps even better for some specific categories. They are both good. Rarely would the net biz and info be worthwhile, IMO (unless it is a flagship website).

If you are going to start a business I would advise registering .com .net .org .info .biz as a defensive move. I think it would also make sense to grab the ccTLDs where you would be conducting business (.us .ca etc).
You might regret not taking the names when they were available later.

the reason im considering registration of the org, info etc....is because this is a marketing move to be aimed at a specific market,....it will involve the registration of key search terms, the a redirect to the main site...

any opinions in this aspect?

and you think it is really necessary, or would the meta tags and body content also be effective in ranking? a domain would come up before meta tags and body content, wouldnt it?

thanx

I think the main ranking issue would be how many other websites rank for those terms (how much competition you have).

I think having useful and unique content on your main site is the thing to focus on instead of setting up domain names with no type-in traffic being redirected to your main site.

This information is good to be aware of:

Absolutely agree with March2005. I have done nothing but concentrate on original and useful content, and have done more than all right with search engines in a very short time.
