Today I replied a post about a domain name with the extension .mobi

I said that .mobi is dead or soon will be useless.
I was then quoted that I was making a stupid commit.

Some day in less then 5 years from now you will see news articles about how wonderful the new (branded) cell phone is.

This new cell phone will be a complete audio browser.
You can navigate with voice commands and the cell phone will read to you what's written on the website and maybe describe the pitchers if asked to.

Cheers

there are .me,.mo,mn,.in ,.cn
which is shorter and better for mobile sites...

especially .us

yes, it died last night in its sleep.

along with mobile applications, and the entire concept of optimized/relevant content.

mobi was dead before it even launched. the new mobi is .me providing the flipping fun for the domain polluters.

any phone that can access the net has a real browser and doenst need a mobi site. never a need for it.

yep, that means we wont be seeing anymore websites that use m.domain.com or domain.com/mobile or redirects to mobile sites either... browsing computer sized websites in an idle context is the best way now that the iphone is out.

Another parked, undeveloped mobi domain. Go figure.

ohhhh noooooooo! that means .mobi sucks and is a wasteland of undeveloped domainspace!

(...nevermind that morgue.com is parked/undeveloped and always has been)

At least they are living up to their name

It must grow up. Wait a moment. I remember such voices, as in the title, when .us or .eu were being introduced. IMHO, the winner in the Rubbish .ext Competition is (still).... .name

Where are you getting this information from?

Like I said in another thread, mobi may not become standard but as the mobile web expands there will no doubt be companies who use mobi.
