Are your developing a .INFO site which is in direct competition with a .COM?

How can you educate your potential customers that there is a new extension called .INFO?

What can you do to help prevent your clientele from accidentally going to the .COM?

This is exactly the problem I have to solve... And I'm sure that I'm not alone.

Please post your ideas and experiences on this issue here.

Thankyou!

Hi, bid.

Are you suggesting redirection from a .COM?

I don't understand how this solves the problem...? Particularly with branding...

Can you please explain a bit more?

Thanks! :)

So, do you mean that abc.COM should be promoted instead of xyz.INFO?

If the generic .COM is already a competitors site, that would mean promoting a less memorable .COM in favour of the generic .INFO...

Hmmm...

this is a tough one... I guess I'd recommend:

1) really working on search engine placement for your .INFO

and/or

2) a memorable logo or slogan that makes the .INFO stick in people's minds...

I think i would take both, i would rank the .info and work with a less desirable .com (not too much less desirable :)) as brand
and then redirect SE traffic toward the .com.
think it s what everybody does no?

NO. I always redirect my .coms (whenever I can secure them in the secondary market for a bludy expensive price, daaaaaaaaaaang) to my .bizs :D

Just like I will redirect my .com.cn to .cn come March 16th,

I agree with bid, redirects are good. I learnt it from Neulevel, who redirected their .com to their .biz in the early days with a smashing .com flash effect. :D

It's called reconditioning the mind :D

That's where marketing comes in. People are actually paid to condition your mind to type .us, .co.uk, .ne.jp, .com.au, .de, and of course .biz and .info :D

People on the internet look for useful sites that they will continue to frequent, not chance upon that sucks.

That's where real profit conversion occurs.

And even without obvious blind type-ins when a person is bored to bits, a good landing name speaks volumes of what that site stands for.

It's not about shiet, WTF did I land on, its damn, this site is what I've been looking for. Fool them once, shame on me. Fool them twice, shame on them.

Water will always find its own level. Heh.

Search engine, incoming links and bookmarks will always "get it right" regarding the extension.

Search engines and incoming links are excellent ways for people to find the site the first time.

That sounds like the best way to go when online.

Thanks, dNK! :)

...Any ideas for offline?

When advertising in print for example, or when someone is told about the site verbally, how do you communicate the idea that .INFO is an extension that works just like .COM .NET and .ORG?

Are people going to attempt to go to domain.INFO.COM ?

Or is the general public educated enough to know what to do when told: "Just go to domain.INFO" ?

This would also apply to the branding on the site itself - How do you ensure that your visitors are going to come back to the .INFO and not go to the .COM the next time they try to find you?

Anyone here work in advertising...? :D
