Today's topic is M-Commerce!! I think as developer's we really need to start looking at WAP enabling our sites. M-commerce is just to big to keep yourself in the dark on this issue. I am going to be immersing myself in this subject so be on the lookout in this section for various topics on this issue.

Today, I would like to introduce you to a site that is trying to help people get WAP enabled sites. Funny how I come upon a .biz site at that!!!

btw: I think this is the coolest .biz logo design I've seen. Very appealing and brand savvy!!

WAP will never really make it.

Wifi/Wlan is the next big thing - much easier, faster, cheaper and flexible than WAP/UMTS/GPS/Whatever.

I regged adjm.com due to the convenient phone punch-a-bility. There a nice website a friend of a friend runs, angled at finding nice mobile-friendly domains...

MDAWG.COM
http://www.mdawg.com/

Interesting if nothing else.

I kind of agree that WAP is wanting. I'm still routing for phone-based net services though (yuk, yuk). I suspect it will move more in the direction of this though:

The whole marriage of PDA, wireless networking, and cell tech is already in motion and picking up steam.

I guess you can tell that Beatz is starting up soon a great site called.

www.WirelessLan.org

I understand he paid big bucks for it.

It has the potential to become the cornerstone of the wifi industry.

WAP is getting bigger now. Most mobile phone come with bigger screens, color-enabled.
You can even download (small) movies , polyphonic ringtones, wallpapers, etc for your phone(s).

But I don't think people will use WAP the same as the 'regular' internet. I saw some shops who had a WAP enabled shop. But I don't see why anyone would use his/her mobile phone to buy cd's , books, etc. It's 10000x easier to do it on a normal pc.

Apart from that, making a profit of WAP sites will be quite hard aswell. I believe the only people who're making money out of this are the mobile operators + their content partners.

I hate WAP but admit i use it maybe once or twice a week.

It really pisses me off though.

And sometimes I am positive Telus is charging me more than 2 cents/page!!!!!!!
