closed iSuburbs.com - Should I renew?

Thanks for the input. Renewal seemed more and more like a good idea, so I just did. I think its best potential is most likely for real estate, but perhaps there is good potential for web related matters, too. More thoughts and appraisals appreciated.

I initially wanted to dump it, too, but you know how it goes. We're still looking at a decent base word with 28.4 million on Yahoo and 26.8 million on Google, a term closely associated in people's minds with real estate ("home in the suburbs") and a whole lot of other positive connotations and realities of life and culture (at least in the US market), notwithstanding having to mow the lawn and pick up the paper and so forth. The "baby boomer" generation has a lot of money to spend on property in the suburbs, cars to get around town, and enough left over to just pay someone to take care of the lawn every week or two. I'd be very interested to hear GiantDomains's and Duncan's reasons for advocating the big down-the-hatch, and still keep an open mind, but my gut feeling is that it's a good name and a keeper for now.

it's tough with names like that.
its easy for us to tell someone else to dump it.
I tell myself that once in a while, and usually see it cought by others in auctions for $xxx, up to $xxxx for names that I dumped(!)
yet, if one keeps potential dumps (lol), you end up with rnewal fees that grow and grow...
you have to draw the line somewhere.

The way I see it, if you have had a domain for about a year which you have done nothing with and is receiving no type ins, you obviously didnt think much of the domain to begin with, so why hang onto it...

This domain doesn't have any meaning for anyone. What does the I have to do with suburbs?
And you may come up with a few excuses for this reasoning but only 5 thousand people search for the term suburb a month.
The problem with above reasoning is simple.
People truly looking for homes; search for homes, real estate, stuff like that.
People looking for lawn care search for mowing, gardening, ect.
Cars, and everything else specific keywords.
This domain doesn't give anything specific, and doesn't relay anything to a person looking for any of those things.
Save yourself 10 years of deciding whether or not to renew it everyyear take that $60 and invest it in a more relative name.

My initial thought when I saw it was leaning towards renewing it.
Suburbs are everywhere and everyone knows what they are.
They have their own history and a place in pop culture.
Just because there is no obvious use now doesn't mean there
never will be.
'i' is probably the second best letter to have before a word,
'e' being the best.
Nothing is guaranteed but at least there is subject matter to work
with here.

I think each name within reason is only as good as the development.. if you just reg names and leave them sitting without parking or developing then you are probably just wasting money... if you can park the site and get your reg fees back each year then keep your name... promote ... promote.. promote.. the key to any successful website... as far as the "i" in front of it I think of interactive... it probably would not get many typeins at all so revenue generated from clicks would have to come from you advertising it.. if nothing else throw it on ebay and see what happens.....

speaking of interactive, how cool would it be if it was an interactive suburb site. You're given a starter home on the newbie block and you post messages to a forum to earn money, and buy a new home or bushes or something. Sort of like a Sims game but online. Every house in the neighborhood belongs to a member and if they're online their house lights are on or the chimney smokes.
I'm probably just rambling, but i think its a cool idea. The internet needs a new "community" besides forums. One that more interactive.

It could be used for a site about developing suburbs in the game Second Life, seems to me that a lot of money is changing hands in that game so it might be something to consider.
