I wouldn't be so sure about that...

A quick glace at the sales at afternic over the last 6 months finds about 17 3 character .coms sold there.

Although one (ido.com) is listed at selling for $5k, the median is a shade under $500. Even discounting the 6 domains with hyphens and numbers, the median only rises by about 5%.

Yes - that bit of statistical analysis makes me sound pretty sad. But I'm looking for any other 'representative' samples of recent domain sales for testing different appraisal models.

Hmmm, ido.com would be perfect for a wedding business.

$350, but only to a wholesaler - names with those sorts of letters virtually never sell to end users.

My theory is that 3 letter .coms made up of dodgy letters (q,j,x etc) are only kept alive by wholesalers. It's like gold - if everybody realised all at once that it's just a bit of metal that is way, way, way overpriced according to its actual functionality then the bottom would drop out of the market. But, that won't happen, so $350.

agree entirely with that tigga. At the end of the day though don't we appraise names on how much we think others will pay for them.
