OK, I am creating a website and would like to sell shirts on the site. It is a fan site and just for this question I will use a random team. Say I was creating a fan site for the Florida Gators and I wanted to sell t-shirts. I know I can't put their logo on it, BUT. Can I create my own "gator" and sell shirts with it? Also can I use the term "gators" on it if I'm not saying "Florida Gators". Example shirt would be something like, " Go Gators" and have my own gator on it but in their team colors.

I don't see why not? I see lots of places that sell premade Ts and Hats but than again, thats 'pre-made' for resale. You could do a "custom" print request and you can put anything on it but that doesn't really relate to anything you are trying to do? G'luck!

This would be under copyrights. Your product would have to differ enough where there would be no confusion. And do not mention Florida" anywhere near "Gators".
