Gents,

I am interested in buying mailpace.com. At the moment they are offering a co-branded e-mail service and have around 1000 members. My questions are -

1. is it worth buying into an existing e-mail site
2. are there any hidden costs / obligations?

Really appreciate your feedback...

Have a great Easter.

Following is te description is from Sedo -

"You can use this domain name to set up your own email service, ISP service, communication service (efax, premium email etc.). This can also be resold at a higher price with a better deal/negotiation. Following are the key features of this great domain name; 1) Excellent Marketability. 2) Excellent memorability – easy to remember 3) Very good length and short word count 4) Simple spellings - combination of two easy and popular words (‘mail’ has 307,000,000 search results on google and ‘pace’ has 10,700,000 results) 5) Relevant words for an email/communication service 6) Distinctive versus other popular services. Currently Mailpace.com is offering a co-branded email service and has accumulated a user base of 1000 members in a few days. We\'re promoting the website through Google ad words (search ‘free mail’ on google) and on the average one successful signup costs us 10-15 cents. If someone signs up for the premium service, our co-branded mail service partner (Everyone.net) pays us $ 10 per user. If promoted through ad words, this website can get as many as 5000 sign ups a month with approximately 2% users signing up for premium service (which can pay for your ad words cost). With the current 1000 members, website is getting 300+ hits a day as people come back to check their email along with new signups. Total page views for the month exceed 100,000 as users view a lot of pages in one email session. With the increase in users, this number will also go up and Everyone.net allows 50% ad space to its partners. This means hundreds of thousand ad impressions which you can resell or use for an affiliate site. Domain is hosted on Yahoo and email service is set up with the collaboration of Everyone.net. You’ll inherit current userbase of 1000 email users with the domain name for FREE."

What is the asking price ? (If you do not mind disclosing)

Being in the free email market ourselves, I feel that you can get a service started like this with a better mail***.com domain through everyone.net without any cost and get that many members within a couple of weeks through advertising etc. Plus if you are seriously considering getting into this market, then I'd rather suggest you set it up with your own software and servers.

Good Luck !

NW has it right. 1,000 users is a very, very small number for a free email service. Spend your money on a better domain and then work with that. The Everyone.net verbiage is just standard stuff. It's not specific to MailPace.com i.e. if you join the Everyone.net affiliate program you'll also get 50% banner impressions and $10 for paid upgrades.
