Hey, we're creating a selection of scripts for different purposes.

One of the scripts we've licensed to a client recently is our Auto Listings script. You can see it being used here by a local auto dealer here in Massachusetts:
http://www.huckinsautosales.com/index.php
http://www.huckinsautosales.com/autolisting.php

The script allows him to upload a shot of his lot (a client request so people can get an overview of what they might be interested in seeing), and then add or edit listings of new cars as they move in and out of his lot. Here's a screenshot of his editor:

How would you folks gauge the the developer market for auto listing scripts like this?

Our script isn't ready for mass distribution yet, but when we release it, I'd be interested in hearing opinions on the kind of reception we might expect.

Best,

Fairly inexpensive. Somewhere in the $20-$50 range.

Put me down for one... How hard would it be to make where different users can submit their cars?

Very easy. In fact, there's "make" and "model". The "model" is an open field, but hitting the "UP" and "DOWN" arrow on the keyboard cycles through all of the available "models". It is "open" (as opposed to a drop-down) because makes can be a quickly changing thing (which probably should require too much back and forth).

Currently, all of these are make/model entries are in a database than can be editted. I'll be sure to make sure the editting of this feature is easily available.

Thanks, for the feedback.

Very slick indeed. $90 minimum. I've bought enough scripts to know what they're worth. For 90$ you can be in business with a local car sales site? Yes please. I'd take one immediately...

Now I've upped the price and cut off my nose to spite my face :D

Is it SQL/mySQL based? Do you have a conduit to a PayPal or merchant account? Is it PHP?

If you launch it so that it can be put up as a subscription-based or payment-based site for general sale of vehicles, then I'm in.

Good luck to you!

It is mySQL/php based. No conduit for PayPal or merchant accounts. It is just a listing system, and lets people call the dealer if they are interested in proceeding with a purchase.

If you mean setting it up so that people *creating* the listings can pay to subscribe to the online listing service itself, I guess that could be added as an option. We'd considered making the software "service" based earlier (instead of providing the software to people), and I'd reserved "ListAuto.com" for that purpose. I could see how that aspect could still be lucrative for the right organization. I'll keep it in mind, Azooza.

Thanks!

Well, I'd buy it straight away if it was, as you say, "service based" in that I could set up a site, promote it in my local community catchment area, and have people pay to list their vehicle for sale, and dealers too. Very lucratibe business in UK - 'AutoTrader'. Please keep me informed!

I've just regged a domain for it :D You get my idea, don't you Nexus; e.g. I can promote it in my local newspaper, and folk can browse all the listings, but I would need the facility for anyone who has a car for sale to upload the details and photo, and pay for the listing. Also, for car dealers, to be able to sell them monthly listing space and give them a password for an account that's recurring billing. Etc. etc. Now I'd pay $200 for that.
