Malcolm Gladwell and Seth Godin would be proud.

Viral Marketing at its best.

Unfortunately, it will "Jump the Shark" any day now. First sizzle, then fizzle.

What is odd is how his paypal score has not changed? I would think with all of those ads someone would have used paypal vs 2checkout. Maybe it
has not updated yet.. Regardless, great idea and a good example of how far a bit of press can take you!

I know he has had 'issues' with PayPal - they are not unknown for their crass ineptitude and inaccurate information at any given time...

I believe it takes 90 days for the score to be updated. It might also be related to what someone here has posted (paypal has decided to block his account) :

i think more power to him for awakening this marketing beast. i do however feel those are his affiliate links that he placed, as he needed 'something' on the board to get started (and make a little cash along the way). i doubt anyone was saying they wanted to be first, but once the media hype was set in motion...

i wouldn't be suprised to see them drop off as more 'paying' advertisers arrive. regardless though, he will make a ton of money and the traffic will be there for the advertisers increasingly as the word spreads, more media catches wind and the site becomes a icon legend.

Yep, my feeling as well. The links to the casino sites are hidden, if you notice, and like someone else mentioned, do a search on him and you'll find more strong circumstantial evidence.

Here is my issue...

What happens if: he sells all the spaces and makes his $1 million in the next month
after a little while, his bandwidth costs go through the roof and he decides he doesn't want to pay a few thousand a year for hosting. He then closes his Paypal account (after taking all his money out) and shuts down the site.

Also, I am 99% sure that once this media fad ends, his site will go back to recieving little or no traffic (remember MikeRoweSoft.com?)

My estimate is that he will max out at $700k in the next 5 months. Any takers? :-D

I visited the site about 1 week after it first launched and none of the big banners were there. In fact, the front page ads show very "normal" growth, consistent with an accelerating interest curve. I have a small ad (5 pixel) on there and it has pulled over 5,000 visitors in 2 weeks. Not going to get into ROI specifics, but I am not unhappy with the results :)

Additionally, Alex has proven very personable and friendly by email, though understandably he no longer answers as quickly now that he gets thousands of emails per day rather than a handful.

The business model is almost certainly not "replicable" by others, but those who got their ads in early enough probably will see a similar positive ROI if the ad is carefully thought out and the offer is interesting enough. Right now, the site is white hot, and has over 18,000 incoming links already as well as countless press mentions.

Hats off to Alex for such a smart idea - just wish I'd come up with it FIRST.

Totally agree! I love how the simplest ideas can prove to be one of the most lucrative and fastest way of building capital or extra money.

You're not promoting your own site, are ya?

Yes I am :). But you will see it start to compete with the others soon, as I just put it up 30 mins ago, already 200 uniques.

LOL, you'll have Robinson Crusoe on your case in a minute, with his "man"... Good luck to you.

Sorry Duncan, didn't realize.

That was a mistake I (aZooZa) made in commenting on your thread which was in fact advertising. Apologies to all for that error on my part. DFB, please read rules.
