I wrote 5 times to one of the crap registrars that pool put me with for about 15 domains and never got a reply from the registrar on how to manage my domains.

So then I wrote to pool for "help".

This is Pools form letter reply...

Hello;

Thank you for using Pool.com.

We regret the delay; however Pool.com is not a registrar and does not have access to your confidential registrar account information. It is suggested that you to contact your registrar directly, as their customer support team will be glad to assist you:

For USAWebHost,

In other words, we got your money, leave us alone so we can do what we do best - rip everyone else off too.

Nice company.

I have the same issue with Pool. Can not believe how poor the websites of some of their registrars are, especially the new ones Pool uses (several of which are based in Asia). Sometimes I think they are not really a registrar and its only a front to get Pool's business to catch drops for Pool, as it would seem that no one would voluntarily deal with them.

The last few they assigned me to did not even have fully functioning websites with important areas such as changing contact info and nameservers not working at all, or even worse the site always being down. If one is persitant they eventually reply to emails and at least they end-up making your changes manually. Getting transfer away auth codes for non com and net (i.e. org) will likely prove impossible which has me very worried.

It's amazing Pool would deal with such amateurish registrars. In fact, they are so bad I feel I have almost zero control over the domains and is one of the reasons I have stopped using Pool.com (in addition to the wildly auction inflated prices).

same here, although only for 2 registrars.

1 based in Korea, that eventually, I figured out how to communicate with them, and the other, get this, was based in Japan, and their 'support' did NOT speak English, and their site was semi functional.
I used an online dictionary to translate from English to Japanese!!! to send them a message!

the reply?
It was in what I assume was Japanese, because windows asked me to install a language pack, which I did not, and even though I ran it through the reverse process to get something in English... NOTHING!!!

I am having a similar type of problem with one of dotster.com's supposedly Korean registrars. I'm not even sure that the domain is registered in my name as the WHOIS gives no registrant etc details.

Someone wants to buy the domain off me for US$300, but I can't be sure the transfer will go through until I know what address (if any) is being used for the admin contact :-(

Still waiting for a reply from the registrar support team.

Hardly 5 minutes have passed and I've just had a reply from the registrar in question!

They apologised for the delay in replying and will put in my registration information if I e-mail it to them.

for translation, i can recommend the following:
http://world.altavista.com/
it includes Japanese amongst a lot of other languages, and you can translate entire websites.

Some of the registrars I've come across lately makes me wonder if ICANN has dropped most all accreditation requirements, and now just accepts payment and rubberstamps applications.

Some registrars have a webpage with little more than an email address on it...if that's the level of service ICANN requires these days, things are worse than I thought...

On the bright side, anything that makes it more difficult for most folks to grab drops is a plus for those with the time and patience to work through the BS.

IMHO this is a good thing. More competition is better for all of us. Do away with the red tape and give us choices.

i think pool should help in communicating issue especially when you are not able to change the whois info when the domains just caught.

Hey Ron,

Agreed... how in the heck can a "Wild West Reseller" become a registrar? One of my pool drops went to monkeydomains --which is a one (a reseller for GoDaddy). These sites are putrid, and I don't see how a "reseller" can be ICANN accredited??

Ooh... I disagree with that one when the "competition" created is of no use to the end-user (low quality registrars) and only fuels Pool's ability to capture more names.

I mean, many of these sites (as mentioned before) have broken functions, do not have english-speaking support, and some do not even accept domain registrations! That means their sole purpose in life is to catch names for Pool.

all it takes is a simple network, a domain name (IF necessary), and a script and voila! you can become a pool 'registrar'!

When and If you are lucky and get a domain, and by the law of averages, you are bound to, you get your commission.
Now, If you speak only Swahili, that's not pool's problem...

DomainMonkey's is a registrar. I don't see anything that suggests they are a reseller for GoDaddy.

off topic I guess...
But If a registrar is called domainmonkey...
I might as well go for domainass, domaindonkey, or simply domainjackass.

No insult intended to whomever owns these domains...

Their site is the "basic" template for a GoDaddy reseller. If you've ever looked in to becoming a GoDaddy reseller, you'd see that all of their "basic" resellers look like that.

oooppsss edit: wrong lyrics...
dont drink and surf. :)

"Up on a mountain way out of town
it‘ saturday night and the folks gather round
bring a little bottle but you hold on tight
it’s a hillbilly rock and roll night
Yeah

hiya all say Ma and Pa
everybody’s out in the yard
somebody’s calling out go cat go
it’s uncle Earl on his old banjo

CHORUS Do the hillbilly rock, the hillbilly roll
stand in line and away we go
a little bit of moonshine a little bit of meat
do the hillbilly rock nad roll with me
Yeah

Grandpa’s rockin‘ in his rocking chair
and grandma’s pretty when she let’s down her hair
her hair comes down, her dress goes up
she grabs a fiddle and she peddles to the vibe

CHORUS

Well everybody dance, everybody sing
squeeze that box and make it ring
here’s a little bit of gift from Ma and Pa
Johnny be good it’s his first guitar
"
